Re: Really ticked off
if you're on foot, nowhere near water, that could be considered a risk. if you're in a boat you're not at risk. the main complaint in this thread seems to be "i can't bowhunt bears from a boat", something that puts you at no risk for large reward.Haba wrote:Bear grinding forced you to leave your town and spend hours in the wilds (and Sabi, that's the risk in it)
no, i think that hunting lower level animals is the better way. level I animals still give a few hundred LP each, plus additional amounts for skinning and butchering, then a little more for making food out of them. it's not hard to get 10 unarmed or melee and go hunting level I stuff, and then you can level your combat another 10 points and hunt level 2 stuff, etc. or, continue using a bow, but don't block the animal from getting to you. get some leather armor and shoot them while they attack you. it should only take a few arrows anyway.Haba wrote: Or do you think that grinding clay or building looms is the better way?

Re: Really ticked off
I'd argue that what the game needs is rather a replacement for the LP system (as well as, of course, a replacement for how bows work, the combat system and general animal AI). ;)Haba wrote:In it's current state the game needs to have an alternative way to gain/recover LP faster.
And yes, kimya. Thank you. :)

Well, I'd say the bigger complaint is that you can't hunt animals with bows anymore. At all. After the animal runs from you once, it will keep running even if you chase it by foot. I'd say the overall tedium of managing your arrows and having lower dmg output was a good compromise for the low risk, and thus giving a way for non-combat oriented meeps to hunt as well.sabinati wrote:if you're on foot, nowhere near water, that could be considered a risk. if you're in a boat you're not at risk. the main complaint in this thread seems to be "i can't bowhunt bears from a boat", something that puts you at no risk for large reward.Haba wrote:Bear grinding forced you to leave your town and spend hours in the wilds (and Sabi, that's the risk in it)
Hunting by foot was superior earlier, now it has become the only way to hunt (once they fix the animals running way from melee as well).
And my main argument is that this fix, while admittedly necessary, is not justified in the current state of the game. If anything, it just promotes even worse activity (creating massive bear traps to trap animals, macros for grinding clay 24/7).

Re: Really ticked off
and it makes so much fun to work yourself up from those lousy lvl1 foxes to the first deer (you can actually HIT!!) and bears... like, thats where all the combat manouvers and different attacks come into game.sabinati wrote:no, i think that hunting lower level animals is the better way. level I animals still give a few hundred LP each, plus additional amounts for skinning and butchering, then a little more for making food out of them. it's not hard to get 10 unarmed or melee and go hunting level I stuff, and then you can level your combat another 10 points and hunt level 2 stuff, etc. or, continue using a bow, but don't block the animal from getting to you. get some leather armor and shoot them while they attack you. it should only take a few arrows anyway.

The change I introduced is that animals that cannot find a way to hit back at their attacker will run away much faster. Fight them honestly, and they probably won't be running away.Rhiannon wrote:Because this is really imbalancing
As for "mines and melee equipment", there shouldn't really be a large problem with taking on animals using leather armor and a stone axe (or your bare hands) -- that's how I fight them with my alt who does not have any mines or melee equipment.
Of course, it is very arguable that archery should work completely differently from how it does currently. It is likewise arguable that you don't normally go around wrestling animals with your bare hands when hunting for meat; at least not in the real world. Those are real issues that we'll get around to sooner or later.
you should still give animals limited stamina so they cant run like children from the pedobear.

However, there were bear pits and such... so a sort of trap system wouldn't be a reach. Also add mammoths...

certainly, animals need to get stamina...
