just place a line of stones around the outside of the bwall, or the calf could wander away and be found 6 months down the track.

Won't work! Just make sure there is space between animal fence and wall. This way they'll end up there instead of outside.

How does it matter when you die? Today? In hundred years? What will be left of you after millennia?

I LAUGH IN THE FACE OF MURPHYS LAW. Lets see the vagina cannons shoot the babies over my walls this time.

Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Btw, 1 tile gap isn't quite enough. Out of 20 babies, 1 managed to land outside the wall when I was doing 1 tile gap. I've moved to 2 tile gap and no problems since.

Btw2: Hai greenscape!
