Plant your butt there!

Post by AnnaC »

I was having a tangential thought with the Jones' update (which I do like don't get me wrong as buildings should take a little while to build). But a small side effect of this, is it makes chairs and the ability to rest much less accessible in the early game (since chairs can't be built outside anymore).

Make hearthlings able to sit on tree stumps. Have a secondary context action, "Sit", that allows them to do so. Mechanics wise I suppose it would be equivalent to mounting a vehicle. While sitting they are obviously immoble, and their stamina recovery is increased like sitting in a chair. I don't think adding any feasting ability would work though, but having an early option to rest would be helpful, as this aspect has been an overlooked side effect of other gameplay changes.

Additional: Better chairs for better tables.

I know this subject has been discussed before (like the old thread about opulance), but I think it needs more discussion as we still are using those old wooden chairs even on fancy silk feasting tables. It'd be nice, even if it's just an aesthetic difference, to atleast have another option for a fancier looking chair to use. Maybe a low-mid tier materials, like a padded chair made with leather/linen/wool or something along these lines. Silk would be super fancy but I don't think spending silk on something that is only aesthetic would be useful. If it's an aesthetic-only addition there aren't any major issues with mechanics or balance, just have the fancier chairs act like the standard wooden ones (they just look better for people who want variety). 8-)

Now there are skull thrones which you can feast one presumably. I do like the stump sitting change though!

Yeah I know about skull thrones but those are ridiculously end-game chairs, and they are end-game raider-faction only types of chairs. It'd be nice to have another aesthetic improvement for chairs that isn't so extreme. ;)

Combine this with a picnic basket you can build out of sticks only on stumps, a small container that can only hold 4 equipment items, and 4 food items, which allows a starting character to use the feasting action until they can get their house dried.

Stumps should give a feast bonus if you're eating cheese (sorry, just a random pop culture reference for ex-Yugoslavians).

This is great simply for the fact that chairs and tables can't be built outside (such a stupid and arbitrary change) so to a new player, recovering stamina can be a chore.
