Re: Flour Barrels
this got me thinking, why just flour? why not things like sand and seeds also. barrels were used to store all sorts of things not just liquids.

Re: Flour Barrels
I would say, to implement this, change how flour works more-so than how barrels work, and turn flour into a "liquid".
- You place seeds in a quern, and then process it into flour. The flour stays in the quern until retrieved with a liquid-holding item.
- Ovens now have a "Flour meter" that you fill, like water in cauldrons.
- Things that used flour as an item now use "container with flour in it" as the required item to craft instead.

Ok, this seems reasonable. Actually I didn't think of it before, if flour was changed to act more like a liquid, then the recipe would have to be changed to require an empty vessel, or as you suggest, the quern would have to have it's own resource reservoir. Maybe an interface similar to a winepress? The only issue there would be dealing with the various recipes that require a quern, and if all powders will act similar to liquids or not. Would a quern only be usuable for the type of end product already in it's reservoir? So a quern with flour in it couldn't be used to grind tobacco until it was cleared?tremlingrendel wrote:I would say, to implement this, change how flour works more-so than how barrels work, and turn flour into a "liquid".

No. Ovens bake dough, not flour. Also ovens are just fine and don't need any modifications, except for maybe being able to bake more than an appetizer's worth of food in a single session.- Ovens now have a "Flour meter" that you fill, like water in cauldrons.
Unneccesary distinction. Or more precisely, this is already assumed. The main issue would be how much "volume" would a single unit of flour be? A decilitre? 2 decilitres? A half litre? Wow, thinking about it like this, a full barrel of flour would be a crazy buttload of flour for sure!- Things that used flour as an item now use "container with flour in it" as the required item to craft instead.
Was the measured volume in litres as well? How many "units" of flour could fit in a barrel?Sevenless wrote:They had flour barrels in salem. I'm sure if/when loftar gets done monkeying with the server guts he will add it in haven too.
I know granary or grain silo type structures have been suggested, to handle seeds in a similar manner. I like the idea in general, but again, translating the volume to individual inventory units might be the main issue, and how to manage interaction with the container and player (or how the containers handle the potentially wide variety of mixed materials they potentially hold).SuperNoob wrote:this got me thinking, why just flour? why not things like sand and seeds also. barrels were used to store all sorts of things not just liquids.

I was thinking 1 seed* per 'liter' so 100 seeds per barrel...of course you'd only be able to store 1 type of seed in the barrel if you use them that way(can't imagine trying to sort seeds in a barrel lol) and of course quality averages as with anything else placed in barrels.AnnaC wrote:I know granary or grain silo type structures have been suggested, to handle seeds in a similar manner. as far as interactions: I was thinking the same way things work in construction signs. you know you get that little window that tells you what a barrel holds when you right click it? use that and shift mousewheel into/out of inventory.
*we all know when you look at a seed its more than 1 seed in the image so who really knows how many seeds that is...so use an even translation of 1 seed per liter gives you more storage than a cupboard for seeds unless you're anal enough to fill cupboards with seedbags which allows you to store 576 per cupboard.

I like the ideas. I'd prefer a new container though, flour sacks made out of linen cloths and a smaller sack from linen that can be put in your inventory to store the flour for dough. I'll admit that's me quibbling over details though and that barrels and buckets are just fine.

Off-topic:*Coughs*, I may volunteer as tribute to be anal enough one day to fill at leaaast 1 cupboard with seedbags? Really bunnies are running like hotcakes around Haven and Hearth again, just like it should've been, as well as leather not being that hard to obtain potentially with enough bunny catchers in a village as well as tubs to use those hides. String is not to mention so plentiful haha!SuperNoob wrote:I was thinking 1 seed* per 'liter' so 100 seeds per barrel...of course you'd only be able to store 1 type of seed in the barrel if you use them that way(can't imagine trying to sort seeds in a barrel lol) and of course quality averages as with anything else placed in barrels.AnnaC wrote:I know granary or grain silo type structures have been suggested, to handle seeds in a similar manner. I'd vouch for your idea!Terean wrote:I like the ideas. Re: Flour Barrels
Linen Sacks would be good to transport large amounts of material as a trade good or stockpile in case of a prolonged siege, but since the sacks are not efficiently used as a container (they just tear it open and pour it into something else when they'd use it) Perhaps a "trade sack" could be something that holds a considerably large amount of the material, but has to be crafted/constructed, and then such sacks would be a way to store/transport massive amounts of them elsewhere for less immediate use.

Re: Flour Barrels
Why only Flour Barrels, how about Flour Sacks? It makes more sense then . Lets say, one sack acts like a container and 'holds' 50 units. And as for changing the flour property into liquid will make baking more confusing. Flour is a solid ingredient and let it be.
