It's probably something to do with the weightings of the cauldron/water being ever so slightly off.miraclew wrote:Thanks.
Not quite exact, but a great deal closer than the wiki formula which predicts 82.75 for your input.

Re: Hardened Leather Quality Formula!
With the old formula from the talk page:Sevenless wrote:93 leather
111 wax
59 water
80 cauldron
Predicted 95.5
Result 93
Sewing 200
Dex 83
Psy 75
(((93+111)/2) *3 + (59+80)/2) /4 = 93.875 - 93.
The old formula works.
The reason it is Q32 is because the leather/wax gets soft capped midway through the equation.MagicManICT wrote:follow up: ok, after checking against SparkyPD's numbers, they all point to the 1:3 ratio except the last set. It's off by a couple points for some reason. The numbers say it should be 34 instead of 32. The others are all correct.
So, unless you guys find data that does not work, I think the old equation from the talk page is accurate (((Av Leather + Av Wax)/2) *3 + ((Water+Cauldron)/2))/4
With the added note that the specific section in the equation of (Av Leather + Av Wax)/2 is softcapped by Root(Sew*Dex) before its used in the rest of the formula.

Re: Hardened Leather Quality Formula!
To simplify that formula a bit:
(3*Leather + 3*Wax + Water + Cauld ) / 8
I still feel there's room for that to be slightly off those with the data we're crunching. You'd have to get situations where this formula should round down or up if it were even a hair off to really test it.

Re: Hardened Leather Quality Formula!
Well every example in this thread works with that equation.
While your suggestion does simplify it, it does not handle the softcapping.
The softcapping in this equation is after (Ave Leather + Ave Wax)/2
So I don't think its a good idea to take that out.

Re: Hardened Leather Quality Formula!
I see no reason why the softcap wouldn't softcap the cauldron/water influence. In all other forms of production that are similar to this (cooking mussels with cauldron), the final result is softcapped, not a part way through element of the formula.SpakyPD wrote:Well every example in this thread works with that equation.

since my cauldron is decent q I should be able to set an alt up to test this. q10 leather/wax + q80 cauld/q45 water and 10 sew 10 dex (or whatever's required not to cap the wax/leather avg). Not sure when I could get around to it though, always busy in game with chores ><

Re: Hardened Leather Quality Formula!
You can test it if you want, but if you look back at my previous post it shows exactly the softcapping. That was the whole reason I posted earlier.

Re: Hardened Leather Quality Formula!
Whoever has edit rights on the wiki...the H leather talk page is all kinds of incorrect right now.
The previous equation that was there was correct, and the softcapping is as I described earlier in this thread.

Re: Hardened Leather Quality Formula!
Full data from my original post. I'm about to isolate a couple of variables and post them up.
Leather, Wax, Cauldron, Water, Fuel ------ Result
(1) 84 76 76, 29 28, 33, 60, 10 ---------- 32 (65 smithing, 188 str, 32 agi, 10 int, 20 con, 13 per, 21 cha, 10 dex, 10 psy)
(2) 84 76 76, 29 28, 33, 60, 10 ---------- 32 (15 farming, 124 survival, 32 str, 23 agi, 43 int, 23 con, 44 per, 14 cha, 17 dex, 10 psy)
(3) 42 42 42, 31 28, 33, 60, 10 ---------- 25
(4) 42 42 42, 35 22, 33, 60, 10 ---------- 29 (+9 Sewing (10), +9 Cooking, +5 Farming)
(5) 42 42 42, 19 19, 33, 60, 10 ---------- 27 13
(6) 42 42 42, 19 19, 33, 60, 10 ---------- 32 (+30 Sewing (40)) 26
(7) 45 25 23 (31), 21 21, 33, 60, 10 -------- 31
(8) 45 25 23 (31), 24 24, 33, 60, 10 -------- 31
(9) 45 25 23 (31), 19 19, 33, 60, 10 -------- 30
(10) 45 25 23 (31), 20 18, 33, 10, 10 -------- 24
The equation:
(((Ave LeatherQ + Ave WaxQ)/2)*3 + (WaterQ +CauldronQ)/2)/4
Works for every one of these data points. Noting that (Ave LeatherQ+Ave WaxQ)/2 is softcapped by Root(Sew*Dex). (The proof of this is in data points 3 and 4, and again in 5 and 6)
Water Q effect is shown in 9 and 10.
I will do a test for the fuel and cauldron shortly. After that, I would suggest that the equation above with the soft-capping shown is the equation unless someone can show a set of current data that does not fit.
