So, I've been perusing these threads for the first time since I started playing a week ago, and I've stumbled upon this sub-forum here.
There are only TWO stickied threads in this folder, and one of them is a blatant message that states "This game is full of people who absolutely love griefing, and make it their priority. There should be absolutely no sense of community other than 'fuck everyone and everything else, its all about me'"
To the game devs, and the forum moderators:
You have such a fantastic creation here, with this game. Why are you letting the most despicable of humanity run the show in the forums and your game?
The world IS full of horrible people, and that's fine. But to have the theme of the game not just tolerate, but to actively encourage what the "grief general" thread states as the mantra of the game, you will never leave alpha.
inb4 all sarcastic "this is hnh, you cant change it, we like it this way" bullshit.
Rivalry and feuds and such are awesome. I love all the aspects of this game. But to support, and encourage, all out anarchy playstyle, you constantly tarnish what could shape up to be a fantastic product.

Re: About the nature of the game
That stung, why can't us lowlives have at least one game for us?FFDreke wrote: Why are you letting the most despicable of humanity run the show in the forums and your game?
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Re: About the nature of the game
I think the political beliefs of the devs pretty much mean you wont be seeing any changes in that regard.

Re: About the nature of the game
The devs little sway on the people that play this game, I think you are giving them too much credit. All they did was put the game out, and people yearning for total freedom flocked to this game.Yolan wrote:I think the political beliefs of the devs pretty much mean you wont be seeing any changes in that regard.

Re: About the nature of the game
Sure they do.
Creating safety measures that are relatively ineffective, but useful briefly, and/or more meaningful structures of the durable or punishing nature would be a consideration of the devs, and would make great strides in populating the world.
Half a thousand people on average online is pitiful when the sheer size of the world is taken into consideration, and the fact that its is littered with decimated and abandoned small camps is a clear example of why its always roughly that number.
Even palisade walls are immeasurably useless against nearly all of the active players, if they so chose to target you.
I wish this game offered even a pathetic measure of security to relatively new players. A solid week, with basically no breaks, of playing and learning the robes, and everything I have or could have can be trashed, pilfered, or erased, and all of my progress nullified, with absolutely, positively NO chance of preventing it, or fighting back, due to the nature of MMOs in general, combined with the nature of this one in particular. The veterans are all that exist, and they hold all the power.
My only option is to constantly run and hide and hermit, or join a pre-existing village and almost quite literally take on a second profession, just to benefit this virtual game. I'm okay with community responsibilities, to a point. The point to which the community at large of this game has determined to be best, is to play this as a second-life, where you can do what you want without the threat of law, leading to an imbalance of game mechanics.
Fuck me, if I'm not gonna keep playing anyway, even knowing all this. But jesus fucking mary and joseph, this game needs work. So much possibility, and a couple hundred people are encouraged by this forum and game mechanics to jealously prevent a mainstream attention span, or the future of a beta or even release, by suffocating anyone who dares login to their precious cesspit.
That's the vibe I get anyway.
Disagree if you want, find me and grief me if you want, but respect the fact that the general consensus of players is to be childish and greedy with this phenomenal title.

There's not as many asshats out there as you might think by reading the forums.
Have you met anybody ingame yet?
Did you die?

Re: About the nature of the game
My main hasn't died unitentionally since world 5, and I have never had anything stolen from me since last world, and I have been playing this world since day one consistantly. So if you think there is no way to be 100% safe, you are correct. But if you are careful, you can easily stay alive. Btw I live in the most dangerous part of the world, Right next to DIS.FFDreke wrote: I wish this game offered even a pathetic measure of security to relatively new players.

Re: About the nature of the game
That's the silliest response I've ever seen. You just stated "Hey, I'm a veteran, been playing this game since World 5. I know what I'm doing, and I know people. You're absolutely right on the mark, but let me try and tell you you're wrong by rubbing my experience in your wounds."overtyped wrote:My main hasn't died unitentionally since world 5, and I have never had anything stolen from me since last world, and I have been playing this world since day one consistantly. I died once while hunting, and then lived for quite a while in my friends' and my budding camp. Then those raiders managed to catch us while we were home, and murdered everyone, and now they won't leave. They're waiting for people to login or create alts, and just murder. Their french or something, so communication is out.
My only option is to join an already existing village, or Brodgar, and I prefer to not be forced to do shit. I want to play in a small hamlet, with a few others. I don't want to live in a fucking metropolis where theft, vandalism, and raids are daily, if not hourly occurances. I don't want to rely on others.
Everyone's so gung-ho about all this freedom of choice this game purports, so why am I forced to wait an indefinite amount of time to log in, just so I can spawn in the middle of BFE, and start over? I should be able to choose "inherit > spawn randomly"

Re: About the nature of the game
It's been stated quite clearly in the past that haven isn't "for pay" nor ever will be. As such? It isn't an Alpha or Beta or anything, it's just a game. That being said, the more drama, grief and so on there is the happier Jorb and Loftar seem to be so you are sadly barking up the wrong tree. Go bark somewhere else little bitch.
As for community? We have a half dozen or more Skype conferences and we all get along more or less fine in them. Your problem seems to be more or less with the black skills abilities in the game. You are a carebear whining because this game isn;t nice enough for you. Shitstains like you brought about the Trammel/Felluca split in ultima Online and functionally ruined it. Please go find another game to champion as your "cause".

Of at least one of them. But I agree with the OP, always have.Yolan wrote:I think the political beliefs of the devs pretty much mean you wont be seeing any changes in that regard.
