Fiction has its merit, but as you say, the info leaked was "Super Secret" village names are far from Super Secret. For that reason the superhero arguments you put forth do not hold up that well.morrogoth wrote: But vaku in my examples that super secret info had been leaked, and people died. thats my point. what assurances do we have that this info wont mysteriously get leaked to our enemies in game?.

Harriet Tubman and the underground railroad. Info on it was leaked, although it helped alot of slaves be free, the info killed alot people (slaves and people helping them escape)
Joseph Stalins secret police raids, where someone had a list of political revolutionaries hidden and then it was exposed and alot of people were killed.
I know you can see village names on maps or walking into their zone, but my point is like Amanda and Tonky among other have said till their blue in the face. What about the people who dont want to be in your project? will you leave a runestone asking them to contact you? or will you respect everyones right to privacy, as much as this game will allow? and why would we want to up and move to an uncharted part of the world to avoid being listed in your list?

I am not asking for real-world examples either. I'm saying if you're going to try to convince me not to continue listing something as innocuous as the matching of Village Identity to village Idol Icons on the map, that you at least use similar situations where similarly innocuous information is being used. As I said before, I do not list the locations of individuals, at most I have listed Large Group's locations who's representatives and members are apparent, i.e. Lake Olympus: JordanColes, Brodgar: Yolan/Snackish.morrogoth wrote: Harriet Tubman and the underground railroad. The only place where I released private information is where I listed my personal information to the point where I said where I lived exactly. Again, that's not the point of the thread. I revealed my information as a gesture of goodwill, not something I demand of anyone. I don't care to know where individuals live, if they're up to no good or not.
The information listed here are not human trafficking pathways or locations of political refugees. The parallels simply are not there.
Leaving a runestone is not going to be an option. As I said, I am not going to discriminate one idol's population over another. I am currently after only matching Village Identities to locations on the map, for indeed public and personal knowledge.
The reason I suggest you move to where I won't be surveying is because you are afraid of me and you are afraid of this thread. You may choose not to be afraid and see the sense of that, or you can accept your fear and move underground or into other locations, like the Outlands where I will not be exploring. As I've said from the get-go, up to you.

im not afraid as i stated where i live before, my point is that your course of action is reckless and could possibly endanger some people, that is all. good luck on your venture, and try to avoid getting killed, as I heard people will shoot unidentified people on general purposes nowadays.Vaku wrote:I am not asking for real-world examples either. Think about it this way, morrogoth wrote: My point is that your course of action is reckless and could possibly endanger some people, that is all.
If your entire security paradigm was dependent on not being identified by your village name, and then that gets unraveled by one guy locating your village idol, then it probably wasn't that great a security measure to begin with.
Times are changing as they always have. You can no longer count on your Village Idol Name to be your most profound safety measure. And I'm the one who has been called, reckless, irresponsible and selfish throughout the recent argument in this thread. Especially the reckless part, that's the most baffling.

Much ado about nothing!!!! Much ado about nothing to whom?Vaku wrote:
Amanda. Oh Amanda, Amanda, Amanda.
This is much ado about nothing. I am happy to see you have strong feelings on these issues and that you're so determined to speak on behalf of yourself and the sake of Hermits like you. I hear you, I understand your complaints, but the content of this thread will not discriminate one village idol from another.
It takes me a whole day to survey one supergrid. I can do 2 supergrids if I am really industrious. I suggest you rejoice in that. With 5x5 supergrids, and I've only explored 2 so far, and not even that, just the white space, it will take me at least a month to get all the information up here if I was working day after day on this. And I can tell you now, I haven't been, nor do I have the time to. Mind you, I'm also working alone.
On top of that there are 24 other supergrids in the Outlands, all of which I won't be surveying until they become shown on algeralith's map. If he's sympathetic with such information not becoming public knowledge then the Outlands will always remain the Outlands and remain the perfect frontier for hermit players to play and live as you feel they should live and play like today.
You?
It's certainly not much ado about nothing to me when you post my village name and I get raided!
Well, that explains a lot! Unfortunately my hearthlings life is important to me! It's not the be all and end all of my life, but, considering I spend a lot of my spare time developing her, it is of some importance and I suspect that is true for the majority of players.I am not phased by the death of a Hearthling.
Your answers to my concerns are first to tell me to build my idol underground and now to move! Seriously!
Do you have any idea, at all, how much work is involved by a single player in setting up a village?!
Finding the right location, I don't have scout villagers to search for good spots - building the pali, then the b/walls, the idol and leveling up alts for the farming and mining, more if you need to secure cave entrances. So, do you, really, have any idea how long that takes and how much work?
Clearly not, because if you did you wouldn't have the nerve to tell me to move after it's you that have put me in danger!
And borka tells me off for calling you selfish!
As you only seem to answer certain points i'm going to re-quote:
Now, pls tell me how you plan to compensate me when you name my village and it gets raided? Are you going to rebuild it, replace my stolen objects and stay to fight off the attackers? There are other players that will know my village name if and when it appears on the list, one or two of those are past enemies, obviously I don't want them turning up on my doorstep if I can help it, neither do I want sightseers - vaku is not giving me that choice however. Had I known this was going to crop up I may have changed my village name - but then again, why should I have to?!
No, lol, ofc you're not.
Before your arrival people didn't post other peoples co-ords on the forum unless they were really butthurt and even then it was frowned upon. It's one thing to have them find me by accident but totaly different to be informed upon.If your entire security paradigm was dependent on not being identified by your village name, and then that gets unraveled by one guy locating your village idol, then it probably wasn't that great a security measure to begin with.
I have to finish up now because I am so mad at you right now i'm afraid i'll call you a lot worse than selfish! I also now realise I am wasting my time. You are going to go ahead with your desires no matter what I or anyone else says. But, hey, thanks vaku, thanks for making me feel that any further time spent on my village and char is wasted as i'm now under threat.
Think thats OTT?
Well, you hermit and build a village single handedly, then give me the co-ords and i'll give them to your enemies to come and destroy it all - lets see how you feel.
Oh wait, I forgot, you won't care - so neither should I - right!?!
P.s. It's 1am, i'm tired and angry so if this has come out haphazard, I apologise, hopefully it's still readable and understandable.

It would not be my responsibility. The man who makes the gun is not the same as the man who shoots it. And I'm sorry for you that feel this project is so life threatening. However Amanda, your situation appears to be the exception to the rule. Not every hermit has enemies that can be so defined as yours, nor enemies that know their village's name, if they are hermits that do indeed even create village idols for themselves(for trade presumably) that they also live in.Amanda44 wrote: And borka tells me off for calling you selfish!...

If it is a village idol meant for claim control you should consider if you're actually being a hermit or just being in a town with a population of one.
Not true. I am waiting to see if I can be convinced otherwise before I begin posting more information. Moreover, I implore you to rethink where you place blame. Never should it be considered any character is immortal or any project everlasting. It's foolish to think that I'm cutting lives short and razing hermitages by matching Idol Name with Idol Icon. The problem began with having enemies who know the above-ground idol's name in the first place. Please reconsider your active security measures.Amanda44 wrote:You are going to go ahead with your desires no matter what I or anyone else says... It was both understandable and legible. Please accept my apology. I am sorry this project has upset you and your current lifestyle. For your situation I suggest changing your Idol's name whether or not I even get to it. It seems the better option considering that even by "accident" your enemies can still stumble across your location.Amanda44 wrote:I apologise, hopefully it's still readable and understandable.
