Re: Secrets of The Hearth
I'm going to build alt hearth barriers on everyone's gate, so I can complete my scent collection.

I've never managed to find wild wheat. Found wild everything else, but not wheat.

Fair enough solution for the new players. They can make dreamcathcers again. Good show people!
And finally, no more worries about fox/boar rape.
Lack of wheat.. Ah well.. I must say, before I started playing, I expected to start somewhere in the wilderness with nothing, like in some URW scenarios.
It disappointed me a bit that getting started up was so easy. I had expected at least a permadeath or 20 before before I could survive properly.
I seems the new wilderness spawning accomodates that idea. I don't think it is bad. Although it might be nice for new players, to have a global 'help' chat channel to ask beginners questions, since there won't be too much people around for them to ask in the wilderness.
About picking up hearthfires: Yeah, you will leave a scent. But since the suggestion was, to remove idle hearthfires from the wilderness from players who don't play anymore, to keep wildlife levels upped... So what if you leave a scent , then?

I have to say, it's pleasant to no longer be stalked across the map by ravenous foxes.

Re: Secrets of The Hearth
Ideally they'd need to build a boat which is 1,500 LP for Wheelmaking, not to mention all the LP before that. Of course that's assuming they survive that long without food because they're not going to be able to hunt any of the animals out there and it's not so easy to live off fish like you used to be able to.lordrio wrote:Yeah there are all kinds of wild seeds, but I'm talking about wheat. Like I said, unless you're lucky, you might need to travel miles before even finding one, or maybe not at all.
It is going to be a little bit luck of the draw to find apples, mulberries or wild crops. I can imagine some n00bs wandering around, being ganked by a bear, having their shoes destroyed, getting thorns in their feet and dying a horrible, horrible death and wandering WTF it is they walked in to.
Then again, there is Brodgar. If someone really has trouble starting out in the wilderness, if they've got a brain they'll maybe pick the civilized option next time and start there. We are talking wilderness, it's not supposed to be easy and if you ignore the great big flashing "Civilization" sign then maybe you're too retarded to be saved anyway (or maybe the sign should be bigger and flash more?).
Let's also face reality, most n00bs (I might be wrong but maybe jorb / loftar have some referral stats they'd like to share) seem to come from established players. IE: My peeps will be starting off with a secret so they start near us. I suspect most communities here will do the same. That makes getting external players in a lot easier (saves certain people having to be online at the right time in order to get people places for us) and gives them a community they can join right off the bat.
I don't see any of this as a problem. Those that want to play loner style will and they'll maybe enjoy trying to work things out and survive. Those that try city life and think it sucks now have a second option to start somewhere that has trees and those that are joining an existing community can get there right away instead of waiting for or having to organise a pick-up.
And there's a *slight* chance towns will be less worried about building Charter Stones as n00bs will potentially be randomly popping-up nearby anyway.

It would be nice if the random spawn option at least tried to put you in the general vicinity of fruit trees (or food in general if alternate newbi food options are made available.)
On the upside; hunting rabbits for food is now much more feasible thanks to not being mauled by rabid foxes and boars.

Then I'll summon you and kill you for the lulz.martinuzz wrote:So what if you leave a scent , then?
Ok, not me, someone might.
You will be leaving theft scent, people will assume you steal something. Thief dies in this game. Most of the time. ok Maybe just sometimes not most of the time.

Have fun training vandalism alts.Potjeh wrote:I'm going to build alt hearth barriers on everyone's gate, so I can complete my scent collection.
Or just add the items that are needed for a full fishing pole to the starting equip. I mean how hard is that please. Fishing was changed a month ago and you still werent able to add that?It would be nice if the random spawn option at least tried to put you in the general vicinity of fruit trees (or food in general if alternate newbi food options are made available.)

Re: Secrets of The Hearth
You don't need vandalism, you just need a large enough number of hearths to stay off the claim. And with the hearth secret option, it's trivially easy to get all those alts where they're needed.
