You know, when people bitch and moan that they miss World X because of Y and Z, maybe you ought to listen to them.
I literally forced myself for about 2 hours trying to figure out a way to play the game, finally figuring out it was the default client's fault and resorted to a custom client to play, then couldn't bear how fucking bored I was after trying to worm my way around the map.
What the fuck happened since world 3, guys? It's not even a case of being a nostalgia fag.
I haven't been any more disappointed than I am right now in my entire fucking life.
Bots. Gimmicks. The vanilla client won't even work due to an serverside bug. And curiosities are still a thing? Did I fucking mention BOTS ARE A PUBLICLY ACCEPTED THING?
I remember how fresh this game was, the new and exciting mechanics I worked myself around. You wanted to be a power player, you fucking worked for it. It was absolutely fucking limitless. I dare to go out of my way and say this was my Game of the Year for 2009 and 2010.
Logging on today damn near brought a tear to my eye. No fucking wonder Deus rolled in a shitpocolypse.
But, there isn't a damn thing I can do besides go back to playing a casual game of Team Fortress 2.
I keep in mind this is a project and not made for the player in mind instead, an experience for the developers but, I have no faith for Haven 2 today or survival genre video games after what I just experienced.

Pretty much they are.
It's now the game we play. Hopefully hafen doesn't have bots, but it's unavoidable in a competitive game.

Deus justified his shitposting with anger towards how he felt with the game.Tonkyhonk wrote:you know how op makes it sound *convincing* by talking with low/deus.
I made one post to express my own deal.

Re: I remembered why I left in the first place
You know, not all players bot and still manage to play a productive and enjoyable game, maybe not advancing quite so rapidly as those that do but unless you are part of one of the big villages or factions advancement is always going to fall behind.
I know Haven has many faults, including the amount of botting that goes on, but there is still much to love about the game and there is certainly more choice and freedom in how you play than most games.
Play your own game and don't worry so much what everyone else is doing, I'm pretty certain Jorb and Loftar are looking at measures to reduce the bots in Haven 2, the same as they have tried to do in previous worlds.
Finally, LoW achieved nothing with his campaign except alienating himself from the majority of the community, I don't think anyone got that he was angry with the game, angry with the players, mods and life in general maybe ....................................
People are much more likely to take notice of your points if you present them in a well thought out and intelligent way, putting the anger to one side and offering possible solutions for discussion. Ranting, raving and being insulting rarely achieves anything and more often will simply invite ridicule.
Not that we really need another discussion about bots surely? How many times ..........?!

@ Amanda: Those things are acceptable if you are not a power gamer. Power gamers need a fair platform to compete and saying 'hey, you might have no chance to compete but you can still have fun' is not OK.
EDIT: I recall a comment from Jorb/Loftar when the topic was about the client, that everything would be server side in Hafen. I sincerely hope it is in an effort to address botting specifically and intensely.

Re: I remembered why I left in the first place
As a side note -
I've been experimenting over the last couple of wks with playing just one char, it's always interested me and now is as good a time as any - I thought about documenting it in a thread but wasn't sure how interesting it would be, esp since when it comes to figures I'm no Xcom, lol.
Anyway, my reason for bringing it up is that even just playing the one char I've still advanced pretty rapidly with a bit of hard work, I have a steel production set up and have just started on silk, it means a lot of slider manipulation and a lot of stockpiling in each stage that you are in, but, the point is, it is possible, it is fun and I am advancing.
And - I'm not botting and I haven't died.
(haven't died yet, lol)

Re: I remembered why I left in the first place
Yeah, I get that. From what I can gather bots are a problem in many competitive games, not just haven, and most developers have a problem dealing with them, the answer appears to be join them or forget the game - I still don't think ranting and raving about it achieves much.Sarge wrote:@ Amanda: Those things are acceptable if you are not a power gamer. It's not that I'm not competitive, as I've said before, in other games that are differently structured I'm as competitive as everyone else. In Haven I don't have the time to be for starters and then yes, I would like a fair platform to compete on, I don't want to use bots and special advantageous features, but, I don't want to lose out on haven altogether, so I choose to be competitive against myself with regard to how high a level I obtain each world.
Haven has enough going for it to be able to play it on different levels, I still think it's fun even if not being competitive on a faction scale. But, then, no, I wouldn't call myself a power gamer.
