What i mean is, will night/darkness be able to be modded like in haven to have no effect, or are you making it be unalterable?loftar wrote:"Handle" in just what way? I'm sure you can see the graphical sunrise in the screenshot.

Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Do you mean that we should somehow, magically, remove peoples' ability to do nighthacks? In that case, I think we've been over this before. :)
Rather, we're trying to make it so that there won't be as much reason to hack it away, by not making it impossible to see at night.

Have you considered making night/darkness similar to games like don't starve? http://www.dontstarvegame.com/loftar wrote:Do you mean that we should somehow, magically, remove peoples' ability to do nighthacks? In that case, I think we've been over this before.

I don't code so I'm ignorant at the difficulty of coding such a thing, or maybe you have considered it but don't want it for haven.

"Similar" in what way, precisely? :)

Darkness being tiles based. Based on the position of your character. During night with no fire, something like 3 tiles around your character you can see, the rest is pitch black, and maybe 1 tile around your character in a cave.loftar wrote:"Similar" in what way, precisely?
Though that would only work if you can't night hack, and you already said you can't prevent that.

Well, that would certainly be a different thing. If I implemented it as a server-side mechanic, it would be unhackable, but it would be kind of a big deal in terms of code, for sure.overtyped wrote:Though that would only work if you can't night hack, and you already said you can't prevent that.
More importantly, however, I'm not really sure I want that kind of mechanic; it's not like it's actually impossible to see things at night. If anything, I think it would be more reasonable and fun to make some specific objects invisible at night, and/or change waht animals are out and about and their behavior (like being far more dangerous in the absence of eg. fires).

It's a good idea, but if those invisible objects are not server side, wouldn't everyone just end up using the modded version to have an edge over people who are unable to see those specific invisible objects with the standard client?loftar wrote:If anything, I think it would be more reasonable and fun to make some specific objects invisible at nightovertyped wrote:Though that would only work if you can't night hack, and you already said you can't prevent that.

Loftar meant server side invisibility, and we would never consider anything else. We do not rely on the client ever.

Fixed, hope this makes sense now:jorb wrote:Loftar meant server side invisibility, and we would never consider anything else. We do not rely on the client ever.
Since there is currently no server side mechanic to stop objects being seen in darkness at this moment, then making certain objects invisible now will just make everyone use a modded client to see those objects during night, so that they will have an advantage over those who can't see those invisible objects using the standard client.

Client data comes from server.overtyped wrote:There seems to be some confusion. I will try to clarify it. I said since objects being seen in darkness are not server side at this moment, then making certain objects invisible now will just make everyone use a modded client to see those objects during night, so that they will have an advantage over those who can't see those invisible objects using the standard client.
So unless the server specifically tells the client, there is a wolf at this very position, even a modded client wouldn't know about it hence won't draw it.
