It needs to be nerfed, and being more exiting and requiring more user input comes with that.Karede wrote:Trading doesn't need to be exciting
Trading with anyone anywhere anytime in relative safety as it is now simply is not acceptable imho

Perhaps he is in fact arguing that one should at least need to actually develop culture in order to reap its benefits instead of having them automatically. ^^borka wrote:So you deny the most important factor in developing culture ?!? ;)

He doesn't look like that ...

While i like the pictures he paints with traveller traders, guarded convoys, hired guards, even waytolls and safe passages over properties you paid for, i think it won't work ... even AfO couldn't be kept by a strong group ...
Anyways i always was in for local bizness

Re: OATHING ! ! ! !
Travel and distance are factors of the game worth considering. They determine safety, convenience, construction time, trade, and so much more. Oathing removes any effective distance at no cost. You can argue that there's a risk every time you oath someone over but it's always a calculated risk that you have 100% control over. Yes, large groups of players who dedicate a lot of time into the game should also be afforded conveniences and the ability to overcome obstacles such as distance. Should hermits who put small amounts of time be given that same advantage? I'd say no, or at least not to that scale. Perhaps there should be some mechanic to allow new players to join villages beyond just starting a new character. Maybe once a week they can join a village and instantly be teleported to or some such. But definitely not in the easy to manage package that it's currently in.
The more necessity and reward for building infrastructure for something like teleporting, the better. Give us incentives to build the game world to our convenience, rather than rewards for nothing.

@ all - Yeah, hopefully they will have come up with a compromise that doesn't hurt smaller groups. I was being unusually pessimistic, not that I feel any differently now, just maybe I should withhold judgement until we see what, exactly, they have in mind. I don't really mind a lack of oathing, teleporting or xrd's but trade has to be a viable option for all players, not just big villages who can travel in groups to protect their wares.
Most of the smaller groups I know do set up local trading between their neighbours but there comes a point you need the higher tier goods that the factions produce in order to advance your own, once trading routes are known ofc they will be camped by the opposition and other players who play that way, in fact I think it will encourage that style of play. There is no doubt that will be exciting and give lots of forum drama but how it will affect the turn over of players is a different matter.
And, yes, @ Teck, benefits already come to those that have more time in game and larger groups that have more hands on deck, as it should be, but do we really need to completely eliminate small groups and hermits, which is what I foresee. How exciting and fun is the game going to be when everyone is pulled into one of the two factions?

Re: OATHING ! ! ! !
We are seeing this scenario negatively, but it may be that this is exactly what the devs want. We either bot or join a faction, or both, or we simply can't play the game. So maybe they want a game more focused on factions and less on survival or individual stuff. Conflict brings drama and activity to the forum after all, and hermits are not know for posting or socializing.Amanda44 wrote:@ all - Yeah, hopefully they will have come up with a compromise that doesn't hurt smaller groups. You know that that's not the case. And this is kind of moot now that it's been fixed
