100% CPU Usage

Post by tjl420 »

I just picked this game up today and decided to try it out, it was running great and I thought why not show it to my girlfriend. when she got home we installed it on her computer to find that as soon as the game starts running on her machine, java spikes up to 99% cpu usage and never drops back down. Now this is happening even at the very early stages of just creating the character is there anything that can be done about this? The machine is not slow, amd 64 3000+ processor with 1gb ram running XP

Maybe if this is not a known issue now it will be, if this is a known issue please someone point me to a known fix?

Ok, so I did a little testing of my own real fast to make sure everything is in order. I have removed all java / reinstalled. I also reinstalled the game itself after java was reinstalled. Made sure computer is clean, and I'd say its about as healthy as XP can get... SO I launch the game and it still does same thing, spikes up to 100% usage before even logging in. :( The game is very laggy when played due to the 100% usage and is mostly unplayable.

It could be that you're just lacking proper videocard drivers, so that OpenGL falls back to software rendering.

The video card drivers are correct as far as I know. I installed the card myself and the drivers, however for the openGL I do not know... Do you know of a way for me to test this?

they are in fact, the current drivers from the manufacturer, right?

Ok, so 3dmark confirms that OpenGL 2.0 is not being supported by my video card. I was under the impression my card supported it.... must have been the previous OpenGL...

So I guess this means you have found my problem.... Sadly I do not feel there is a hardware resolution in that computers future.

I am going to try running a Sun Virtualbox XP machine and see if it allows me to bypass it with fake GL support ;-)

I don't think OpenGL 2.0 should be necessary, but the very fact that it doesn't support it does indicate that something might be a bit flaky. What kind of card is it?

After a little research I come up with you having a very similar problem.... My video card supports OpenGL 1.3 and below but not 2.0 therefore 100% cpu use. When I research your card I get OpenGL 1.5 and below so this may be your problem as well
