Might I ask in the nomenclature of what pseudoscience* you are using the terms? (I seem to sense Freudian tinglings along my spine.) Also, are you postulating that the "ego" has its own set of desires, different from the "inner" ones; and, if so, what traits do they exhibit that qualifies them into one set or the other?Caradon wrote:Outer desire is known as Ego. I rather think it's much more likely that
A) He has no clue what he's talking about.
B) Has been watching too much Micheal Tsarion on google video.
C) All of the above.

Lucid dreaming, which is a psychological phenomenon as well as unconscious dreaming, is not pseudoscience.loftar wrote:Might I ask in the nomenclature of what pseudoscience* you are using the terms? In fact declaring Psychology a pseudoscience is downright ignorant. But everyone is entitled to their opinions I suppose, just as I am.
And no, my area of study is not Psychology, I just find it an interesting topic. Also, I think that the study of motivation, personality, behavior, perception, cognition, attention, and emotion are very important to our further understanding of the brain.
Anyway I'm off-topic.
2012 is bullshit, I hope no one is holding their breaths over this.

Re: 2012?
Well, to be fair psychology really is a psuedoscience. It's far to abstract to ever reach definitive theories and hypthesis that can reliably predict results. That's what science is and it's what psychology is not. Psychology is a field of study to which scientific research is sometimes used and some results had but the truth is the %90 of the application of psychology is based on methods that have no scientificly proven merit.

Well, of course not. It is neither science nor pseudoscience. It is a phenomenon. I'm not sure what kind of point you intended to make with that.Caliku wrote:Lucid dreaming, which is a psychological phenomenon as well as unconscious dreaming, is not pseudoscience.
Well, sure, I did exaggerate a bit to get my point across. ;) Psychology per se does not necessarily have to be a pseudoscience. I just haven't seen any actual realization of it that doesn't fall immediately into that category.Caliku wrote:In fact declaring Psychology a pseudoscience is downright ignorant.
As for the subject of psychology itself, I'm unclear of my position on it. I have yet to see a concise definition of its actual subject matter: obviously, Aristotle reasoned about the nature of the human mind thousands of years ago, and he felt no need to call his research "Psychology", so I do find myself wondering what the subject has been expanded with to merit the usage of this rather new term.
Oh, some more relativism. How wonderful! ;)Caliku wrote:But everyone is entitled to their opinions I suppose, just as I am.

Psychology is the study of the software that runs on the human distributed computation engine (brain+muscles) and is an attempt to reverse engineer the driving principles in order to predict outcomes.loftar wrote:As for the subject of psychology itself, I'm unclear of my position on it. I don't really see how it's less scientific than proper science. I do see a lot of crap out there that's done fairly un scientifically, and a lot of really poor assumptions (like assuming everyone runs the same version of the software and that the software doesn't change itself over time)
