So it seems the new H&H will be an hybrid between ex H&H and Salem.
I think the concept is to much a niche to allow 2 games to close to each other, and would prefer for H&H to go to the oposit direction of Salem to allow diversity of choice for the lover of this type of game, but watever.
So you play H&H and not Salem, why ?
My oppinion of Salem :
- its to complicate just for the sake of it, you not "lets play Salem and have fun" but "lets try to learn how I could do the simpliest things without rage quitting"
- its to slow : everything seems to be build around the concept of maximum time sink.
- its to flashy : you dont feel like on earth in nature, but on LSD land.
- charactere desing : I like to play with a simple toon, not a grotesque muppet; in a survival game, I like the thrill of fighting for MY life, in Salem I fight for the life of a character that is too detailed and werd to feel it coul be me.

Re: What did you hate in Salem you dont want in H&H ?
I don't know i think its a bit bad form to link Havens new version and Salem till we see it. They may have similar engines but its all how its implemented. That being said there were issues in Salem that turned me away. So if it helps Jorb and Loftar I will share.
The colors flat out game me headaches. To much to frequently.
The game was rather complex, and not in a good way. I love depth but but complexity for its own sake not my thing.
Other than that it didn't seem to have the same drive as Haven. In Haven when i first started it felt like a fun adventure to discover the world and learn things. In Salem it felt like a chore with no real direction. Free form can be nice but some guideposts along the way would be nice.
Other than that that's all i have to say about it.

You talking about haven? You understand that haven is very slow too, and new players cant understand a thing.simimi wrote: - its to complicate just for the sake of it, you not "lets play Salem and have fun" but "lets try to learn how I could do the simpliest things without rage quitting"

I'm not sure that I have a strong argument against sketch colors - Jorb, November 2019

my feelings exactly, a total snooze fest.LadyV wrote:In Haven when i first started it felt like a fun adventure to discover the world and learn things. In Salem it felt like a chore with no real direction.
You aren't wrong but I think Salem takes it to an extreme level, obscuring the most basic of activities and lengthening the time they take up to a point where it might be more fun watching grass grow/paint dry.shubla wrote: You talking about haven? Please no time gating on feasting like salem had before they sold it.
Really though, most things i don't like about salem i will assume aren't coming to hafen. Universal currency with NPC vendors sucks because the game is pretty much a silly grind to get the most basic tools (mining pick, smelter) from silver (unless of course u want to buy it from the cash shop!), or a village claim (8500 silver, unless u want to buy it from the cash shop!). The combat looks more similar to havens than salems which makes me happy cause salems combat was awful. Personally i prefer straight learning points to salems system of inspirations and though i dont know what hafens LP system will look like. I assume we'll be able to tame animals unlike salems where you buy them for silver. Most of my complaints come back to the universal currency of silver being required just to get your village going, which turns the game into a tedious grind or a game of wallet warriors. Also, some systems were pointlessly complicated (farming), but again, looks like it isn't coming to hafen.
Also, please none of this http://www.thesalemwiki.com/wiki/index. ... _by_Combat

Re: What did you hate in Salem you dont want in H&H ?
If you want to play the type of H&H game, the closest option is Salem, so what is good or bad in the Salem idears is relevant at the time of revamping H&H.
Most of us have played both, they first started with H&H, test Salem and returned.
Devs can just read the Salem forum to find what is good in Salem, but to find what is wrong, may be the best help could come from peoples in this forum.
I know Loftar and Jord dont give a fuck of the our opinions about our visions for there game, and thats fair.
But it cant be bad for them to know why we are there and not on Salem, even if they dont ask, and without any trolling at all.
What I prefer in H&H is the the brut wilderness fealing.
You start like a beast, not with a fancy purple velvet hat and delicate maners like in Salem.
We have to eat worms, make stone axe like prehistoric mens.
Nothing fancy, just guts, not a colonisation game, but a real survival game.
So what I prefer is making everything simple, basic, beside the temptation with the new graphic engine to make it more sophisticate.
Lets say that the difference between those two games is that H&H feels the humain aventure from prehistorie, to bronze age, to early iron age, and it bring more survival fealings than the univers Salem take place.
OK, I dont like those blue hats in the trailler, would prefer fur or viking type.

I've seen Salem mentioned here in the forums previously, so I have seen some trailers... The only reason I will not try Salem is the graphics of the character, that has a big head, and looks like he is drunk.

The camera. I like how I can move in Haven while the terrain and objects around me remain at constant screen coordinates, so clicking stuff isn't a chore (especially with all the thin foragables in Salem).
