As for the shop system, it's quite ballsy to implement it without any way to get the stuff back, but it works, if you don't suck at the game (which is who most people who play it anyway, they've at least played a previous world or two or all of them). I don't mind the playtime system, either, but I think there should be a tiny amount of playtime per week as well (at least 1 hour or even 30 minutes a week refilled). As for the game itself, I have yet to try it. I hope the game was worth the wait

Re: Game Development: A Far Green Country
I' just wondering, is the game lagging for anyone?

Sure. Our reasoning with it was basically that wePurlox wrote:Could you please explain how this shop seemed reasonable and unobtrusive? I'm genuinely curious..
A) Didn't want to sell power ups, or even utility items, as we felt they risk distorting the ingame economy too much.
and
B) Wanted a flexible regime under which people have a fair amount of options in terms of how they want to pay for the game, without cluttering the store too much with too many offers.
- Verifying the Account was intended to emulate a simple one-time payment for the game, if you play it casually. Perhaps the hours aren't enough to actually be that, but that was the intention.
- Supporting the Patch was intended as a mix between donations and cosmetic items, i.e. token hats bought for the very concrete reason of supporting our latest game development, and getting something minor in return.
- Subscription was intended to be precisely that. Paying a low price continuously for full access to the game, with the option of giving us more if you feel like it. (And I'd also like to point out that a subscription for a year puts the price at $6/mo. Not ten, not fifteen. Six.).
- Buying Game time was intended as a way to perhaps give game time to others who can't or don't want to pay, or whatever, and basically then paying slightly more for what is effectively a subscription once added to your account, but with more flexibility in terms of who actually gets it.
We figured that the game itself would be the big thing here, and that's also where we've spent most of our energies.

Perhaps we should have engaged more with the community at an earlier stage, but I'd like to point out that we didn't really talk about the game at all, as I've been wanting to put some breaks on the hype train, or at least not build up a bunch of hopeless expectations.
You seem to believe that everything is now set in stone and that we are being completely unreasonable about everything and anything.
That is not the case.

I think people take that away from the game's release because so little was communicated. Those two things are directly interlinked.jorb wrote:Perhaps we should have engaged more with the community at an earlier stage, but I'd like to point out that we didn't really talk about the game at all, as I've been wanting to put some breaks on the hype train, or at least not build up a bunch of hopeless expectations.

"They didn't tell us the game would cost money because they thought about it for so long and hard, and they knew we'd hate it." is not an unreasonable thought. From what it seems, Hafen is just Haven and Hearth but way bigger, with a more easily modified engine (after a year or so of Haven slowly breaking down), and with more to do. It really seems worth the money.
But the announcement of money on the day of release just feels like betrayal. I'm sure you're honest when you say that nothing is set in stone, but you must understand by now why people think you're just lying. I don't, but anyone who feels betrayed probably does.

Crisis in our contry does not allow to play your games jorbtar. Do you have enough money in 2009, and now you've decided to hit us in the face with over nine thousand paying things. Please, change your mind until you have destroyed all fans of your game series. Maybe you remove game time and leave hats, or leave a game time but give us the old Haven free, we very disappointed, i don't want to say that your game not worth your wasting time, but, it's very simple to give us old haven free and reassure all who are now going to your house with torches and pitchforks.

Re: Game Development: A Far Green Country
I and my buddies are ready to pay no more than 10$ for unlimited play in this state of game and all about. I dont wanna get sub AAA MMO level for lags, bugs, loosing stuff, staring on "server is down" message, be alone with "sorry, buddie im not gonna pay for thath kind of game ten dollars monthly" etc.

I would wish time was much longer as I can't pay that much for sure. And surely your 6$ looks nice itself but not in overall. Year price is a big one, people who would try to go for it wouldn't be playing game for months just to get some money first to get that amount of money to spend (im looking from more poor people who afford less money on games perspective) and many time is spend itself to learn the game now.jorb wrote:Sure. I'm not hoping that anyone would buy me for free some time, beucase, it's not gonna happen probably.
Wouldn't you think about system a bit similar, but instead of free time, account character/characters grew tired overtime, making everything more time consuming with rest system? Eventually making only defending your own camp/structures possible withour tired status?

Will i ever be able to play on Legacy without activating my account for 15$?
Cuz now it says "Authentication token expired", is it connected with account activation?
