Why do I occasionally get more than 50LP for a discovery?

I've been racking my brains trying to figure it out. I've gotten 50, 100 and 150 LP for discovering things and I can't see any pattern to it. Anyone have a clue?

Because sometimes you discover more than one type with the same item. Spindly Taproot may, for example, give both "Spindly Taproot" and "String".

Ah ok, so you get LP for both the item, and the item class if you haven't discovered it yet. My chanterelles would be the first mushroom on this character. Neat, thanks for clearing that up.

I was wondering about that too. So basically, every new discovrey is worth 50 LP and it just so happens that sometimes, a new item overlaps with other new classes of items if you never discovered it before.
