I don't feel that 5:1 is unfair at all. Keeping the process happening, investing in the space and security, there's a reason few other communities have such a setup.
I think I'd probably accept 4:1, but I think if we're going as low as 3:1 we should be getting some other less valuable commodity as well, or coins, maybe 3.7:1 for bulk.
I feel Krantarin is grand standing to try to lower the cost, I'm fairly certain he must realize the time and effort involved in turning wrought into steel is far from inconsequential, and at the bulk that he wants to trade at he's getting a massive convenience. Personally I think whoever traded with him in the past was cutting our own throats at those rates.

Re: Wrought Iron for steel.
This is true. We do ask 4:1 for regular trade. we only ask 3:1 for wrought to steel conversion as a service. Which is different in that you can't trade bulk (over 15 or so). But that indeed does sound..odd and exploitable.

It's upsetting that you say such a thing, theTrav. as far as I remember, those trades were consensuses by the people who were on at the time including Rift and Wanderer. It still seems like a much fairer number to me.theTrav wrote:I feel Krantarin is grand standing to try to lower the cost, I'm fairly certain he must realize the time and effort involved in turning wrought into steel is far from inconsequential, and at the bulk that he wants to trade at he's getting a massive convenience. Don't worry, I probably won't be doing similar deals with your town anymore. I'm running a couple crucibles now. Even with eight crucibles plus the necessary security, the time and effort is minimal. I highly suggest other miners not get tricked by Laketowners.

Service, in that they don't get the steel until we've put the wrought through our crucibles? That seems reasonablesami1337 wrote:we only ask 3:1 for wrought to steel conversion as a service. How can you put both of those together in the one post?Krantarin wrote:It's upsetting that you say such a thing, theTrav... [snip] ...I highly suggest other miners not get tricked by Laketowners.

I'm sorry that you think/say "whoever traded with him in the past was cutting our own throats at those rates." and I hope that you won't trick innocent traders into a four hundred percent exchange rate.theTrav wrote:How can you put both of those together in the one post?Krantarin wrote:It's upsetting that you say such a thing, theTrav... It makes perfect sense to me.

I'd happily pay 6 wrought iron for steel. People will wait 3 days for it, then trade it off. It's more than fair.Krantarin wrote:I'm sorry that you think/say "whoever traded with him in the past was cutting our own throats at those rates." and I hope that you won't trick innocent traders into a four hundred percent exchange rate.theTrav wrote:How can you put both of those together in the one post?Krantarin wrote:It's upsetting that you say such a thing, theTrav... Oh, see because that's the ONLY part of my post you didn't quote, I assumed you were sorry that I thought/said you were grandstanding to lower the rates... I guess you're not contesting that part at all.Krantarin wrote:I'm sorry that you think/say "whoever traded with him in the past was cutting our own throats at those rates."
There is no "trick" we're stating the ratio fairly clearly and our reasons for it being that way, discussing it fairly openly.Krantarin wrote:I hope that you won't trick innocent traders into a four hundred percent exchange rate.

Two words: Laissez-faire
The people make the goods and the people decide the who, what, when, and how the goods are traded. Where the hell do you guys get off telling other people how to do their business?
If you lose your trading partners due to someone giving better deals, there's no one to blame but yourself. Instead of bickering about "Fair deals"; why not go out there and do something about it?

You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

umm, if you're talking about Krantarin and I, we're both members of trading communities that have traded with each other in the past and possibly/probably will do so again in the future...Blaze wrote:Where the hell do you guys get off telling other people how to do their business?
My first piece of input was primarily for sammi to say that when trading away laketown's steel, as a resident and therefore partial owner, I feel that 5:1 is a fair price, 4:1 is a generous price and 3:1 is an unnacceptably low price.
Krantarin's input seems to be that he feels 3:1 is an unnacceptably high price and he will not trade with us and that we are all bad people for demanding such high prices and are "tricking" people by charging such high prices and that no-one should ever trade with us again.
Which is a legitimate bargaining tactic in many places, but I'm trying to put it out there that Laketown is unlikely to push our prices down lower than we already have.
So far I don't think I've seen anyone commenting in this thread that doesn't have some wrought that they want to turn into some steel or some steel that they want to trade for more wrought...
