What is the process for creating tanning fluid?

I have the materials but when I craft it fails saying I have no place to put the fluid.

What is needed to build a hitching post? I have the rope to try and tame something but nowhere to tie it to.

Well unless you need a presice timer, the answer is hidden somewhere in the name of that curio: the time consumed/LP gained is HORRIBLE, and you should KNOT use this thing.
