Do shields even do anything to help you? like defences? or new skills?

In Legacy Haven, shields had their own defensive stance which took Melee Combat damage instead of UA. Meaning if I had 100 UA and 0 MC and used a shield, I wouldn't benefit from it. But if I had 0 UA and 100 MC, I would benefit a whole lot more with shield stance. I honestly don't know how shields work on haven 2 I'm assuming it's the same. If there isn't armor class to the shield, there might be a skill for it. ( I assume shields have armor class meaning they can take some damage away from the "Main" damage. Like the little green text that appears if you get hit by something and you have a boar helmet equipped. )
