How do I get to leatherworking? Also, help with mining!

1. Please help, wiki is outdated and we pretty much bought all the possible skills leading to leatherworking and it's still not in sight.
We've got:
- animal husbandry
- archery
- carpentry
- farming
- fishing
- foraging
- hearth magic
- hunting
- lumberjacking
- oral tradition
- pottery
- primitive tools
- sewing
- stoneworking
- tanning
- the will to power
- wilderness survival

And we can't see leatherworking yet, what am I missing?

2. I can't find any metal anywhere, been hitting on cave walls, all I get is stone behind them and I got a black coal just now aswell but it doesn't look very promising, am I missing something? Are copper/tin lodes sitting on grass somewhere and I'm just misinterpreting the severely outdated wiki? On that note, how do you even unlock mine support? do I actually have to make a mine hole before it opens up?

Isn't tanning what you want? That's the skill you need to make leather.

Mine support I think needs a chunk of ore to unlock, which means you're going to have to find some first. And ore nodes aren't everywhere, you have to look for them.

Aren't everywhere, ok - but then where is it even possible to find them? Can I find them in caves? or are they lying around in the open world.

And we do have tanning but it doesn't allow us to buy a leatherworking skill..

Having a look at the wiki because I didn't play much in old haven, and it doesn't look like it had a skill called "tanning". I think it's the same skill, renamed.

Regardless, tanning allows you to make a tanning tub and tanning fluid. I'm waiting on my first batch of leather so I won't know what I can make with it until I get it. Hopefully it will unlock some leather recipes.

I'm pretty sure I was making a leather backpack with just the tanning skill.

What about mining though? can you guys help me out at all? How do I find lodes of metal and where?

You can use rustroot to search for mines. Not saying it is usper effective but it is an option.

Also certain stones outside can be smelted into metal if you just need a few bars to get you going.

As for mining itself you might have just started out in an unlucky location.
