The place I want to settle requires an extra wall to block off a cave entrance. Are you saying it shouldn't be too much of a hassle? Even if I have to make 2 brickwalls eventually? Do you have the exact numbers by any chance?TeckXKnight wrote:Extending walls is substantially cheaper and easier than trying to build multiple corner posts. You can very easily do both but there isn't much point to. Building gates is worlds easier now. For example, once you've set the first palisade cornerpost with leather, bone glue, rope, and wood blocks all cornerposts, walls, and gates after that just take wood blocks.bongshanky55 wrote:Also how much of a pain is it to build multiple walls compared to adding onto a wall that is started? Is it like the old game?
I'd suggest practicing on a roundpole fence first.

Yes, cliffs block animals and animals cannot currently break fencing. I'm afraid I don't have the numbers for a brickwall, sorry. No steel yet here. =(bongshanky55 wrote:Do cliffs block animals from getting in, if the cliff is claimed and the entrance is fenced?

Re: Grand List of Simple Questions
Crap. More problems now. Somebody can enter from the cave and wall jump to the ledge behind the entrance, even if I build a gate. So I must build a wall inside the cave instead. Does this mean I have to mine around the exit to build a wall on all sides that prevents people from mining their way in?
Or is it possible to just dig out the ledge outside and build a wall around the entrance?
Thanks for the help

Both would work. Mining the cave might be easier if you have 3-4 metal bars and a good mining char though.

What determines who is smelting a ore for the benefits of skills like steel making for improved output?
Is it the one who lights the fire? Or the one who sticks the ore in?

I've not tested this yet this world, but so far away from a cave entrance isn't mineable. Find out where that border is, and you can dig out a hole to build a wall and gate to keep anyone from getting in that way. You shouldn't need to mine completely around this area. Note that this will require a double starting post to build, so it isn't cheap. The other route of collapsing the cliff and building around the cave entrance might be better for you.bongshanky55 wrote:Crap. More problems now. Personally, I'd go with the wall inside the cave as then it gives your people some measure of protection from ambush on the inside. Nothing wrong with doing both, either, as you can't wheel a ram through the cave entrance or exit.

Wild animals do, yes. Once the map that they're on unloads due to no users being within the vicinity, they will despawn. Wild animals that you're taming need to be tied to a hitching post or they will despawn as well.AzTno wrote:Do animals despawn?

Re: Grand List of Simple Questions
i accidentally ported to my HF outside of my house while i had crates in front of the exit, thought i was gonna be locked out but it still allowed me to go in. i spawned inside of the crate, couldn't move but could lift/destroy it. it's probably the same way with caves.bongshanky55 wrote:If my village has a cave entrance inside the walls, is it possible to put an object in front of the entrance to prevent people from bypassing the palisade?
