Because it makes quality constantly drop without a chance to raise it. When you have 50 units of 10/10/10 fodder and then attempt to drop 50 carrots of quality 20/20/20 you will still end up with 10/10/10 fodder, because one carrot is not enough to raise the quality and it's rounded down to 10/10/10. But put a single carrot of quality 9/9/9 and you end up with 51 units of fodder 9/9/9.
We've been throwing some leftovers from farming into food troughs. Most of it is around average quality of 10. But there were pieces like 1/7/13 etc.
The result is we have 4 troughs full of ql 1/2/1 fodder ^^
I think containers with volume should keep the decimal part of quality for the purpose of calculations when mixing.

Wrong as in "shouldn't be that way" I guess you mean? Haven's rounding system has always been a little harsh in that sense. But I personally am comfortable with that harshness so... *shrugs*.

legacy was the average of all food in the trough, weird that it rounds for each piece of food now, seems like a bug if it's true.

are you sure you are not looking at trough Q versus the food inside Q? I have yet figured out how to check Q of food inside a trough / chicken coupe / barrel

Use bucket on a trough / coop - you will get swill in a bucket so you can easily check the ql of itBramson wrote:are you sure you are not looking at trough Q versus the food inside Q? I have yet figured out how to check Q of food inside a trough / chicken coupe / barrel

Re: Rounding down quality on animal fodder is wrong
It is overly brutal. If you're not gathering food from a single, consistent source then the three qualities cause your average to plummet insanely quickly and then there's no going back.

The alternative is that fodder sometimes rounds up, and this risks being sploitable.

Re: Rounding down quality on animal fodder is wrong
Would it be possible for fodder to calculate quality based on the average of the 3 qualities rounded down instead? I don't think animals utilize the three different quality stats but I may be mistaken.

Is there no possibility of the container keeping the decimal part of the quality of its contents, instead of only integer, for the purpose of mixing, and round it down for crafting / displaying? Can't really see any space for exploits here.jorb wrote:The alternative is that fodder sometimes rounds up, and this risks being sploitable.

Re: Rounding down quality on animal fodder is wrong
I don't know about anyone else, but I got in the habit of emptying out troughs on a regular basis due to crop qualities straining to keep up with animal qualities in older worlds. It should do a better job of averaging out, but it doesn't. Instead of adding the new to the old one at a time, add the new to an empty trough and then mix it if you must. It minimizes the rounding penalty.
