Had it happen twice with my hop plant so far that it was stage 5, didn't give me the option to harvest and jumped back to stage 0 the next morning.
i have the same question.
also i still don't understand fireplaces. so if you let it burn, it accumulates fuel to light it later. but that fuel runs out again overnight while it's not even lit, so what's the point? is it better to just let it burn all the time and hope it's still got fuel left to relight it in the morning?

So that you don't need to baby it while you're playing and keep throwing fuel in. You can just fuel it and 'Light My Fire' whenever you need to cook while you're online. When you start playing in the morning just spend the 2 branches necessary to light it.

The red bar is heat, not fuel. In case the fireplace is still hot you can relight it.
It is also taken into account when using the spitroast, in case it's low the cooking will take longer.
does stone hardness increase as you go deeper underground?
at the cave level, approximately what STR do you need to mine? i am at 63 str and i still get msg like 'stone is much too hard'

Yes and no. The minimal quality does not increase, but quality nodes appear more often and are stronger. So you are not guaranteed to get better stone, but the chance increases the deeper you go.

Depends on hardness nodes. Sometimes 10 str is enough, and sometimes 100 str is not enough. Try to mine elsewhere

You may need higher quality mining tool. At least in legacy your mining power is STR*ToolQ.

currently using 10,11,11 pickaxe :/ how much higher should i go?
also why do some ore walls break after 1 hit and do not give any ore at all?

As high as you can get it, tool quality looks like it could matter even more than it did in Legacy. With 8-8-8 I get same error message "That rock is just slightly too hard for you to mine." no matter if I have 53 STR (with bear equipment) or 34 (without them.)
