Claims, Theft, Etc.

Post by kobnach »

The new behaviour of claims is pretty maddening. Today I came back from mining to find a newb wandering through my claim. She claimed not to have noticed the claim flare, and I believed her - even though the claim was full of theft scent, with a side order of trespass. (I checked some clues, and they didn't point to her ;-)) Life was much better when they had to train "trespass" in order to get into your claim - so finding them in there was evidence of a kind.

Every container I own seems to have a "theft" clue - and nothing is missing. I'd really like to be able to distinguish "snooping" from actual theft. It would also be nice if theft and trespass clues looked different before you picked them up.

Meanwhile, people I like seem to have been frustrated into leaving.

Can we get a system that's a bit more workable - pretty soon? And maybe some way to protect goods other than exploiting game (mis)features, like hearthfires positioned to trap people at entrances. I'd particularly like to see something that protected against griefers and alts - something that they couldn't get through without putting a _lot_ of time into earning LP to get some expensive skills. Trespass costs too much less than yeomanry, and I doubt theft costs much more, particularly when you consider the cost of extending one's claim. That puts the arms race in favour of the thief/griefer - which really bites. I don't so much mind professional thieves, with real characters in which they've invested considerable time and effort - but the vandalism problem is out of hand. (Not just in game - see the vandalized food chart, no longer available and previously very useful. But the in game atmosphere of easy troublemaking encourages troublemakers to focus on this game in particular.)

Thankfully, I always keep a copy of the food chart open, so it is now saved in screenshot form :3 I will be posting it when I get the two screenshots pieced together.

Well in that case you have some nice codemonkeys working against you all or some very malicious people who saw the chart was unprotected. Maybe Zdazzle had his password stolen, considering he had really been playing the game a while, and had his hearthfire still in bluehaven, a thief would have left. a whole new slew of probabilities for yesterday's events.

Gah destroying that food chart is griefing, I know there has been a fair amount of disagreement over the definition of griefing but I doubt we'll find anyone who disagrees in this case (but now that I've said it... :P). Glad to hear Ferinex can save the day hehe.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I noticed it was gone when I restarted my browser, and it tried to reload all the windows which had been open.

The initial announcement claims they look different, but the only difference I see is in the placement - trespass at the edge of the claim.

Although someone on IRC did manage to save an actual archive of the page :P

Note that photobucket resized the image slightly, but it is still perfectly legible.

I can't believe someone would vandalize the food chart. What was done to it? Because all it says at the moment is stuff about griefiers winning.

I think what happened is Dwarfu was attacked by grievers ingame, grew upset, and removed the foodchart.
