So we have discussed many things, and it is clear that J+L do not want bots. Fine.
There are alternative defenses. The fact is, people sleep, people need to sleep, hell, this may be a shock but I'll go with it.. People have fucking lives outside the game. This should not mean that their crap be entirely vulnerable.
Raiders also have the advantage when people are active anyhow, as they not only know in advance that they are attacking, but they also have numbers on their side, while a town may have only a fraction of the same amount online at the same time - The recent WV raid is proof of this very HUGE flaw.
So I propose a few changes that may help.
Village claims, if someone enters and turns criminal acts on, they should receive a debuff of 50% on all of their abilities and attributes, another black skill "Sinister Intent" would lower this disadvantage to 25%, while certain equipment can bring it as low as 10%. However, If they are a member of a village, they can use village authority to remove this disadvantage entirely. It would last 3 real life hours.
Another suggestion is guard towers. They require obscene resources to build, do not have a large range, and when built, require food, arrows, and water to function. These towers would not be particularly strong, but would provide a distinct tactical advantage. However they would only fire at people who are not members of the village who have left scents within the village claim.

You do realize that only 2-3 players were still playing the game... Right? It was an attack on a ghost town.Caradon wrote:The recent WV raid is proof of this very HUGE flaw.

It's easy to claim it after the fact. But we were all on the #Haven IRC, Most came on an hour or two after we first started attacking, it's called sleep and you did it.Seizure wrote:You do realize that only 2-3 players were still playing the game... Back on track:
May I suggest that the guard towers only work if manned by a char (to get rid of that unwanted NPC feed)? A character playing the game would simply enter it, but the tower could also be manned by offline characters who logged out there. The accuracy and damage made by the tower would depend on the Stats of the manning char. Possible downsides to logging out in a tower would be:
1.) your character is not logged out in a bed (beds are afaik pretty useless atm, but they chould be beefed up (say to regen shp/hhp/stamina/TW at some rate)
2.) your character can be summoned and killed at the tower if the attackers have your scent.
3.) the tower will consume food/water per time unit (much as coops do?)
4.) if the tower is razed, your char takes massive damage through some mechanic hokey-pokey (or outright killed), then is left vulnerable to summons.
The tower would have a limited arrow/quiver capacity.
What about alt manning of towers?
If a village is willing to grind a sufficient number of alts to high Perception/marksmanship, and at the same time go through the grind of continuously filling the towers with bread/water (at the rate a char eats, this is not a small task), I think they deserve the added security.

Re: Village Claim Defenses
The concept is to alleviate the need for players to be on all the time, of course we dont want them to be overpowered. but we want them to WORK as a deterrent, a serious deterrent. They'd work BETTER if manned, being that they would be firing on their own, plus enhancing the aim rate and reducing aim loss(when enemies move) Of the player.Gauteamus wrote:Back on track:

2. Agreed, The attackers would have to survive the towers attacks while they destroy it , only then can they summon a player who is logged out within. Hey thats a good idea! tower strength determined by the sleeping characters perception and marksman skill. Hmm. The person in the tower is auto-summoned as soon as the tower is destroyed, and they log out in a minute if not attacked.
3. Yes
Alt manning towers would be foolish, since youd have to focus on increasing your skills to affect the damage the towers do.
Towers would hold up to 1000 arrows.

So people who never did anything bad can die while defending the town while being offline? How is this better than just logging out then?Caradon wrote: 2. The idea of towers is quite good though. Id really like a complete set of fortress modifications. Stone walls that you can walk on, moats, keeps, towers.
