A double palisade is not much discouragement to be worth the effort. You are far, far better off making a brickwall. It can only be destroyed through battering rams which take 24 hours to dry. As long as you check for rams every 24 hours, it's basically impossible to be raided if you possess a brickwall.

Pretty sure I've seen them in forest terrains. At least, I've caught frogs and no change in movement speed and no dragonflies around.
