We had a village of 5 people.
1. One got tired of playing the game. I guess it was too hard. He didn't even know how to make a fishing pole. Everything was handed too him. He wanted to program a bot to do everything for him but he never made it.
2. He was a great hunter but got really angry when the deers would hurt him for missing the arrow. He thought the entire combat system was a joke and rage quit. Also steep learning curve.
3. Another play got tired little after he installed the game. Saying "im not walking 3-4 hours just to play with you guys" But he eventually played but less and less until 1 and 2 stop playing. He also was more casual.
4. I died 4 times maybe 5. I kept trucking, but eventually we traveled a long way and set our project too big. I never finished our project and got tired of playing. Also, 5 left after he noticed that I stopped playing and login in as much. I want to say that it's my fault the game seemed less appealing because of real time issues that I had going. But, in the end the game just died for me. As there were no other players to play with besides one.
5. He may still be playing but I doubt it. No comment.
I want to say the reason I quit is that I got tired of grinding for high q nodes. I traveled everywhere, looked everywhere and just got tired of it. I know haven and hearth is about the adventure but having over 2 gigs of mini grids isn't my style. I stopped playing before the great high q nodes update. I saw that everyone got higher q nodes but even then I didn't see myself wanting to play. Maybe it's the grind of everything.
I still sign in to feed my cows and plant my crops but foraging for curios, I do not. Trying to find high q nodes, I do not. Mining, I do not.
It's not you haven and hearth. It's me.

Re: Some thoughts on Player Count
I personally like it a lot how people are rushing everything in the first few days, and then are crying : 'oh there is nothing to do here'.
Well fuck off guys, no big deal.
I'll keep playing.
H&H allows you to do whatever your imagination can think of. Because of an awesome level of RP possibilities.
Oh but RP is not imba enough right?
Get a life. For your own sake. This is supposed to be a game you have fun with.
And this game couldn't profit more than with losing some dumb kiddos (as your mom wallet btw).

Re: Some thoughts on Player Count
This will fix literally nothing and would make the player base even less. The entire "end-game" of Haven relies on the infinite progression. If you put some sort of cap you might have more players willing to join later into a world, but you'll also have a bunch of players quit because there is nothing to do when they are caped out.Potjeh wrote:We need to get rid of infinite character progression, it's why virtually nobody bothers joining a world older than a month or so, and why casuals like me drop out when they fall too far behind. This grind competition where you have to log in every day and schedule your day according to the game is just no good for people with actual lives. And even if you do that you're still not gonna keep up without exploity BS like autostudy. I reckon autoeat (eat next scheduled food the moment you hit 300%) would also give you quite an edge.
A lot of people who play this game do so for the competitive portion of. Competition in different quality grinds, competition in trading, competition in PvP. Its natural for these players therefore to try and progress through the game as quickly as possible. Fuck us for wanting there to be more to do after 4 months and getting bored when there isn't.Bruthol wrote:I personally like it a lot how people are rushing everything in the first few days, and then are crying : 'oh there is nothing to do here'.

Re: Some thoughts on Player Count
On one hand, instating a cap cuts down a lot of what is left of late game progression unless the cap is very high. On the other hand, grinding shouldn't be a late game content in itself. It is best as a mean to something than a purpose and (personally raiding is not a good reason because it creates a forced arms race).
High faction politics was one reason that set world 3 and 5 (in that order) to be some of the better worlds in Haven (your mileage may vary) and that requires player interaction and other people are fairly good end game content itself because they are dynamic elements in the game (like random events that the developers have no control over).

-=The law of inverse desire=- The chances of dropping what you want is the reciprocal of how much you want it.

This post has it all: Missing the point, dictating other people how to have fun and insulting everyone around.Bruthol wrote:I personally like it a lot how people are rushing everything in the first few days, and then are crying : 'oh there is nothing to do here'.

Calling number-pushing content is really stretching it.

What would you even do if you couldn't push numbers? Without the grind the game runs out of things to do in like 2 weeks.

Re: Some thoughts on Player Count
The game needs to have the self-interest generating system. Right now quality grind is not good enough to keep the public attention. High quality stuff has little difference with the medium-quality.
Some would say it is a sandbox game and you have to find your own stuff to do. Well, yeah, but this does not mean the game will keep being interesting for you + in haven it is always the same meta and the setting.
For last last dozen of updates I struggle to see how devs were attempting to introduce anything significantly changing the meta-game.

Well, it's super fun to bash roads and rebuild one's own roads. Top end-game mechanics. Keeps people logged into the game for extended periods too!
The low life has lost its appeal
