Re: Character Development: Credos and change in learning system
Good point. The thing which i m concerned of is some deeper in game mechanics. In H&H you will ever need to repeat actions a lot, may it be for making food for attributes or crafting tea pots endlessly(which bots often do). In the current mechanic you are able to spend this points where ever you want ie smithing, combat, farming etc and can make a decent smithing/murder/farming/etc alt by crafting teapots with 1mio LP per ~ 2days realtime (maybe a bit more or less but 2days are a good estimation; i dont know of ways to get more than 20-25k LP/h) and minimal effort (beside writing the script).Sever wrote:Presumably, you get your learning points doing whatever you do well, then you spend your abstracted freetime learning something else, i.e. killing bears by day, learning agriculture by night. Also, learning-by-doing or attrition style systems set you up for vast fields of macroing robots, something which prefers to be reduced. I played a very basic and very tiny community RPG that was essentially a Zelda-style visual MUD once which had you learning by doing. I reminded me of what Chak said previously about Runescape. I saw a guy firing arrows at a hedge and came back to see him doing the same thing 5 hours later. Same went for miners, except they had to keep moving to the next tile every 5 minutes or so. Macro macro macro. Not fun not fun not fun.
Though scripting cant be prevented, the system from the OP would very difficult or nearly impossible because you do not only need a different script for each skill to obtain but certain activities like cooking/mining+smithing and especialy combat skill are very difficult to script (for 12h+ contiously crafting/day) and would decrease for example the number of murder alts a lot. (i dont have anything against murder alts cause i have them too)
But thats not the main reason suggested this system. When i play game i want to have some kind of "image/reputation/prestige", you may call it credo or playstyle or whatever, for example for a "noble knight" it would be unlikely to sneak in ones house and rob them or cultivate field all day long. So you can identify urself with this "image". If i am not mistaken this is what Jorb meant with credo.
€: changed header
€: addedpictureThe first part of this text discusses Credos the second one an alternative learning system. These do not necessary go with each other though i adapted the Credos in this way. My intention is that you can create a character with whom you can identify yourself and emphasize your conviction/beliefs ie "Credo" to others.

The plan is to scrap the whole LP system and replace it with something more involved. Macroing in the new system will presumably be unproductive.

Does this also imply the scrap of skill values and therefor the quality system? Those are hard to seperate.Potjeh wrote:The plan is to scrap the whole LP system and replace it with something more involved. Macroing in the new system will presumably be unproductive.

Re: Character Development: Credos and change in learning system
I thought about it. Lets assume we get a quest-based system and quality system stays like it is. You gain Pottery/Lumberjacking etc by doing quests.Potjeh wrote:Where did you get that?
Now we have two ways to go:
1. Scrap Meele/Carpentry/cooking etc and throw limits away so that quality is only dependent on resources. Everyone would have the same combat level only affected by attributes.
2. Keep Cooking/ etc. . This would imply you can raise those by some kind of activity may it be hidden LP, learning by doing or whatever. In advance this would allow macroing to raise skills.

No it wouldn't. Not any more than you can macro stats, anyway.

My paint skills suck
I may be mistaken or didnt found a lot of people speaking aginst this system (no offence, if im wrong correct me). Instead i found a lot of similar thinking people in older threads:Potjeh wrote:Oh, I didn't fully read the OP. Now I see it's yet another one of those "only raise farming by doing farming" systems, and the general consensus is that we don't want those.
