i think the currently solution is nice. but not great.
i think the amount of criminal acts should/could be added to the whole calculation of the strength of the ghost.
say 10 thefts is 1 vandalism.
10 vandalisms is 1 murder.
or sumesuch.
as long as noone is murdered (or enough damage done equal to a murder) the ghost shouldnt be able to perma kill.
just let every hit be a wound, no shp, just wound upon wound upon wound.
the stronger the crime(s) the stronger the wounds.
not killing the ghost in time could off course result in death if your wounds stack beyond your HHP.
this would add a significant penance, without being certain kill by 20 ghosts that are each 0.3 your power.
this would also still allow for smaller crimes to be commited without too much of a burden.
stealing 5 bars of steel would be the same as stealing 5 hay in this case, but meh.
the point is, more crimes stack to 1 bigger punishment, instead of multiple small ones.
permakill should also just be for when you do enough damage to other players to actually warrant(heh) it.

Re: Game Development: A Touch of Vengeance
To be fair, the noobs were asking for it 9 out of 10 times..What risks are you willing to accept/should there be for committing crime, then? You are complaining because crime is no longer risk free, which is hardly the same as the game being farmville, is it? In fact, it used to be farmville noob stomping for raiders, and is arguably less so now.

It's a major paradigm change much like curios, mining, combat, etc. You're speaking to an audience of autistic and OCD individuals. Change is bad, mkay?jorb wrote:In fact, it used to be farmville noob stomping for raiders, and is arguably less so now.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

I found this untrue in my travels. a lot of people knew me. and I mean a lot. and when i asked who they were on the fourms i'd normally get the "o I just Lurk" or "I never post just check out a few post"shubla wrote:This is really true.jorb wrote:~.CMDR_Salient wrote:~.

Not that i travelled much, but everyone i have kinned in-game is somewhat active on the forums. Anyway, there's a lot of newbies' opinions on the game, and it's certainly reachable.maze wrote:I found this untrue in my travels. a lot of people knew me. and I mean a lot. and when i asked who they were on the fourms i'd normally get the "o I just Lurk" or "I never post just check out a few post"shubla wrote:This is really true.jorb wrote: ~.

Re: Game Development: A Touch of Vengeance
Hey, first time post. Long time fan.
I have read literally every page of this discussion in regards to Nidbanes and it really made me want to post.
I speak for the peace-lovers (we're not noobs, btw. We were here from earlier worlds but never joined any large group) that is me and my small group of friends (4 of us including myself).
This update is great for US. It doesn't make us 100% safe, but allows us with our limited resources to enact some act of vengeance without investing a lot of time and materials learning how to siege.
You people complaining that this is going to become farmville are only viewing this update from your very-biased, very-limited perspective. For you crime-committers, it's not going to be fun for you. But that's the point. It's a punishment. If it's fun for you, it's not exactly a punishment, now is it?
But for those of us who are content with not committing crimes and earning our own keep? This is great. This is OUR update, not yours. Just like any update that benefits raiders will not be fun for us. Just cause it's not fun for you doesn't mean it's bad.
So I say, good on you Jorb and loftar. Thanks for not pandering to the raiders exclusively. I expect there will be updates that my friends and I won't enjoy, but them's the breaks. For now, Huzzah Nidbanes!

Re: Game Development: A Touch of Vengeance
Jesus, you sound like such a giant asswipe. Anyway, get this: any faction able to raid your village can still take care of the nidbane thing VERY easily. I am no raider, pro nor "criminal" (heck, not a single one of my characters have even trespassing), but still I can recognize when an update is rushed and not very well thought out. If you want to keep supporting their "experiments", then by all means go ahead. But don't make it sound like the only people that are unhappy about this update are "criminals", and not sensible people that practice some sort of common sense when thinking about updates like this.Legendmaker08 wrote:Hey, first time post. lol if you don't think raiders can use this as a weapon to harass innocent bambis. But for those of us who are content with not committing crimes and earning our own keep? This is great. This is OUR update, not yours. Just like any update that benefits raiders will not be fun for us.
for example, i build a ram outside your wall and claim over it. you go outside to destroy the ram, thus leaving a vandal scent. now i can send a spooky ghost through the walls to get you.
before the update, you would still have the protection of your walls in this scenario, you'd leave the vandal scent, taking the bet that you'd be able to stop the invasion and continue to hide behind your walls. now, you don't have that option anymore. it's damned if you do and damned if you don't.
at least jorb recognizes that there are going to be unintended consequences to the spooky ghosts, just like anything else that's ever been done to the siege system, if it's good for the larpers, it's good for the raiders

If only claims had a 24 activation period to prevent this type of abuse.bitza wrote: lol if you don't think raiders can use this as a weapon to harass innocent bambis.
