Dragonflies can escape swamps via rivers.

Not that I'm complaining, it's a lot easier to catch them in a boat.

What I've seen, they can cross rivers that divide swamps.

Absolutely sure it was in deep water? That said, flying animals (including insects) should be able to cross deep water, just not park there.

If they are indeed able to fly across deep water then that is the case, as it was flying when i caught it. It was definitely deep water.

also saw a moth out there too
