Re: enough is enough
I think it's pretty simple... zDazzle, not a griefer. Princess... not a griefer, both legitimate player thieves that happen to cause grief.
Inaba lord, griefer. dry rack wallers, griefers.
People are going to complain about both thieves and griefers though, probably with similar sooky pants because they can be pretty major in game setbacks, and typically make the victim feel pretty shitty for a while.
Personally I think the problem isn't so much that the thief skill is too cheap, but rather that there's no levels of escalation implemented yet. Once we can start investing more effort in protecting our goods, like locks, fences, guards etc, then the thief will have to invest more effort in stealing them.
An interim solution of just raising the black skills to something similar to the steel making costs (10k each) would probably work so far as cutting right down on alt exploiters, but in the long term I'd really like to see different shades of black, the ability to steal from common areas, the ability to bypass locked doors and chests, the ability to sneak around / kill guards, as well as the ability to try and do it all without leaving a trace.

At Sami: I assume that image macro is directed at all of the whiners bitching about losing virtual items in a video game, correct?
The self-righteousness on these forums makes me absolutely sick.
Right, because being able to summon and beat them down while they are AFK isn't cheap AT ALL. You want to exploit the game mechanic of being able to beat and kill offline players - you can NOT get angry at him for exploiting the game mechanic of hiding his hearth fire.Potjeh wrote:I found out that his hearth is hidden behind a house in Bottleneck. Well, I loathe people who use such cheap tricks, so I built a bunch of fires behind that house. I'm fairly sure he's walled in and can't get out.

Re: enough is enough
The dev's have stated that the ability to summon, beat and kill offline players is intentional, and they have also stated that the ability to hide hearth fires in un-summon able places is unintentional and will be fixed...Ferinex wrote:Right, because being able to summon and beat them down while they are AFK isn't cheap AT ALL. You don't think there's a difference between using a feature that was deliberately added and one that happened accidentally and is considered a bug?

To put it another way, putting your hearth fire behind a house is as bad as using a vault, which is only slightly less bad as walling in hearths/vaults with drying racks because it's defensive rather than offensive.

Honestly? No, I don't. ESPECIALLY when the game is in alpha. People exploiting bugs just grinds in the fact that it needs to be fixed - although, in this case, I don't think it should be fixed. Being able to summon offline players that can't even fight back is cheap, and much more unfair than a hidden hearth fire.theTrav wrote: You don't think there's a difference between using a feature that was deliberately added and one that happened accidentally and is considered a bug?
Also, they said they intend to implement some system of being able to fight back, which hasn't been made yet - therefore killing a summoned player who is not fighting back is a 'bug', and 'unintentional' and needs to be fixed.

I don't think this game is ever going to be in anything other than alpha... I can't see the dev's reaching a point where they say "yeah ok, this is pretty much feature complete now, lets just work on things like bugs, performance and stability from now on..."

Re: enough is enough
have to support ferinex' argument. if my thearthfire wasnt needed for the vault, it would be hidden aswell. its just wrong to let someone else summon your char, especially without any possibility of defending.
also im wondering why some ppl think vaults would be wrong. like, morally wrong or whatever. its just using the stuff you get ingame creative. i think, our vault is true art

Re: enough is enough
We will stop complaining when we have a way to destroy objects other then cabins and idols. Then we can at least reverse the damage that is being caused to the villages. Until then, the only thing we can do is pray to catch a less experienced griefer in the act and perma kill them.
Thieving is a part of the game, we accept that. Griefing by walling in peoples homes, mines and hearths is NOT stealing. This is deliberate griefing and the player involved is gaining nothing by doing it.
My opinion on vaults is that they are a necessary to prevent stealing. Cheap? Hardly.

Re: enough is enough
walling in does not require any character investment, hidden hearth fires does not help them accomplish that task at all.Adam- wrote:Thieving is a part of the game, we accept that. Hidden hearths prevent retaliation for theft.
So basically it's your opinion that players should have a 100% defense against thieves. I disagree, as I think do the majority of players, and more significantly, the devs.Adam- wrote:My opinion on vaults is that they are a necessary to prevent stealing.
Please explain how it's less cheap than hiding hearth fires.Adam- wrote:Cheap? Hardly.
