No, it is rather so that the higher values you have in the attributes that are matched, the closer you will get to the upper bound.

I am confused as to why my bear talisman and thimbles (and probably others too) still give their original bonuses? Didn't you say all bonuses were removed?

Bear teeths gives +str, feather trinkets gives farming and dex, heartwood leaves gives perc cook and farming and rock crystals gives str and melee
