What is the go-to custom client of this era? In the past I have used Ender's client, one that has been very reliable through worlds.

Enders (as you've mentioned you have used in the past)

I'm an advocate of Enders Client. Never let me down

Also, not sure what your rig is, but I know mine has some FPS trouble with any client other than Enders. And I think that's due in part because of the added extra stuff, not sure though, can't figure it out.

Natural clothing bonuses were removed in favor of going to a system where you can more or less wear what you want and put the stats on them that you want. If you're into min/maxing gear, there are still some things that will be better than others.

To make artifacts and gild them onto clothes: Find gilds under craft>clothes>gilds. Pick up the crafted gild and right click the clothing item. It gives you a percentage based on the two items and your level in the relative skill. The first one always works. The chance is to get a second slot on the clothing item.

Note that no matter what bonuses you get from items or other sources, you can never have more than double your base value.

you have to make a high enough opening of that specific color in order to deal damage, the bigger the opening the more damage.

I found an abandoned claim and some dead cattle and horses, when I inspect the dead animal it gives me an avg quality of 22.5 but when I skin it and butcher it I get a much lower quality, what's going on with that?

My stone axe is 75
My survival is 54 (base 30, equipment 24)

Also if animals have starvation ticks it decreases quality as well.

Farming is only used in place of survival if it's higher.
