Would it be too much of a problem to just have that last segment of wall clip into the cornerpost itself, even if the bounding boxes overlapped?loftar wrote:In theory, the floating-point stuff would allow building non-cardinally-directed fences and palisades, but the problem with that is that since the palisades only come in fix-length segments, it would be quite difficult to build them in such a manner that irregularly built walls will connect up exactly to the cornerposts, and adding non-fix-length segments would be significantly more difficult, at least. I guess one could use it to build a wall system that is not cardinally directed but still with only right angles, at least, but that seems a fair bit less useful.

45° is no better, since sin 45° = cos 45° = sqrt(2), no multiple of which will ever be integral.Onep wrote:I guess you could lock it to 45* angles in the center of the tile?
I don't imagine much good coming from inconsistent bounding.Boas wrote:Would it be too much of a problem to just have that last segment of wall clip into the cornerpost itself, even if the bounding boxes overlapped?

Even if the segment terminated inside the cornerpost?loftar wrote: I don't imagine much good coming from inconsistent bounding.
Maybe the solution is smaller wall segments, then. Like, the size of one log from a palisade segment. Square instead of rectangular.
Oh, that reminds me, what are the chances of implementing irregularly shaped bounding boxes? Circular bounding for barrels and tubs and shit?

Only 60°?
i'm joking....i guess the best solution will be the modular building thing...

Circles sound difficult. Im pretty sure that there's reason why we dont have those.Boas wrote:Even if the segment terminated inside the cornerpost?loftar wrote: I don't imagine much good coming from inconsistent bounding.

Re: Diagonal Pali/brick walls
well It's unfortunate that diagonal walls are out of the question without some work, but instead could we have the ability to place a cornerpost next to a cornerpost? currently you have to extend a wall segment before you can place another cornerpost, and it makes it difficult to make curves. I was going to make a circular palisade but i had to scrap that idea beause i couldnt place two cornerposts next to each other without a lot of work.

Since we're now in 3d mode, with the benefits this provides...
What about letting us build walls a little differently by giving the ability to build curved walls?
Let us still extend or place cornerpost, but let us place (and rotate) the new part freely (within limits) and, before building has commenced, enable us to place a control point for a quadratic bezier curve to determine the form of the wall to be erected between the origin and the newly placed part. And an option to 'connect' to make it easy to fill gaps.

Bumperino, its time to bring this back from the dead.
I'm assuming the problem you raised before are still problems you would face now, but perhaps a fresh look will inspire you to take action.
i bring this back from the dead now partly due to the new weird beaver dam walls, which seem to behave unusually
