Authority and Combat Advantage
I think that when you get in a fight with another player inside of your village's area of influence, you should automatically start with 1 or 2 levels of combat advantage. Home-turf bonus.
i guess they never miss huh

Re: Authority and Combat Advantage
That actually makes a lot of sense.
Perhaps it could be tied to the size of the village and your authority in it.

Surprise.

There is no home-turf advantage considering all of the map is our character's home turf. If anything I think the only thing that a village area of influence should do for combat is report that combat is happening to everyone in it.

Maybe, a manuevuer, for if you're part of a village:
Authoritarian Power
Increases chance to hit/damage done based on current ammount of Authority in your village.
Only works in your villages borders.

Wat? Historically the defenders have always done better in battles. Right now the area of influence doesn't do anything really drastic for the average villager. Saying the whole map is my characters home-turf is like saying the entire United States is my home turf. It's not.JTG wrote:There is no home-turf advantage considering all of the map is our character's home turf. The map isn't the size of the united states.

I'll have to disagree here, the defender usually does better in battles because they're entrenched, which will only happen IF they know the enemy is coming.Ferinex wrote:Wat? If bandits were to attack you while you were placidly harvesting wheat, I doubt you'd win. Combat readiness > Turf advantage
I'd rather have the ability to send out an "Alert marker" on the map, which will signal everyone nearby to either prepare to fight or run.
Also, there should be a massive advantage gain when more than 1 person is attacking the same target. And maybe a maneuver to nullify it.
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

Knowing the lay of the land plays a big role IRL, but it doesn't really affect you in Haven and Hearth. Also, we can't entrench, and that wouldn't really suit the medieval setting.
Last point: The British were just as - if not more - prepared for a war than the colonies. The colonies won. Home turf advantage.

Eh? Setting up archer towers, obstacles, and other fortifications seem implementable in the near future. The British lost 1/3 of their men when they attacked the Americans entrenched in Bunker Hill.Ferinex wrote:Knowing the lay of the land plays a big role IRL, but it doesn't really affect you in Haven and Hearth. TBH, that's probably due to the method of fighting. The ambush and harassing tactics used by the colonists might have worked against the Indians they were usually fighting, but it didn't do enough damage to the vast numbers of the British Army.Last point: The British were just as - if not more - prepared for a war than the colonies.
