Code: Select all

Your problem is the TMP is set to the root directory of your system drive, but the windows user BOB is not allowed to create files/directories there.
Solution: set TMP to a folder where BOB is allowed to write

Sadly the function is localized in windows, should you have a non-english one you'll have to google how to find it:
- click to open start menu
- type environment
- select Edit environment variables for your account
- in the upper box double-click TMP and change the C:\ to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp
- OK and OK (and maybe a restart of windows is needed)

This should fix it.

One wonders how that came to happen in the first place, though.

Probably some malware or stuff like that...in those cases i would suggest the good old Format C: and clean Windows installation, it's always a good thing to do sometimes.

Possibly. Some older programs that were designed before XP can do this. Running virus and security scans never hurt. Best suggestion for this is to use a flash drive as a boot device and run the virus scanner from there.

Yeah...from my experience when you have some bad stuff (malware,etc..) they are very often related to the TMP folder in some way.

I have seen windows changing the TMP path in cases where the folder it points towards had been removed (by misguided users cleaning up their systems).

java.nio.file.InvalidPathException: Illegal char <:> at index 22: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ C:\Users\BOB\AppData\Local\Temp\

Never mind. Turns out I accidentally added a space before I typed the stuff in.
