Re: Game Development: Milling Time
Why is everyone so ansty for an update? I admit, the things are nice when they come, but Jorb has said that he doesn't have a schedule. Stop asking about it and just be surprised when you get that message in-game saying they're shutting down for an update.

You'd think "It's out when it's out" would be common knowledge at this point.

You'd think, but today's world is always in such a rush. It's not just age specific either, it's just kind-of how this society is now-a-days..Burinn wrote:You'd think "It's out when it's out" would be common knowledge at this point.

I recommend the reading of Liquid Modernity by Zygmunt Bauman.

Re: Game Development: Milling Time
The problem, from my perspective, is that LOADS of other in-development games are being developed by people who are willing to set a concrete update schedule (actual updates to the game or news of what they're working on) and force themselves to keep it. This gives the players reason to believe every indev game should do this. I personally think forcing a schedule just increases the risk of rushed content or lying to the people who read your updates.
There should be more widespread focus on transparency like J+L or Toady try to, not just gathering up the best looking bits to show everyone once a week/month.

Re: Game Development: Milling Time
The in-development games I know that has consistent schedule update are made by larger team than 2 developer. I think it is much more important for new/unknown developer to have transparent and consistent schedule just so player do not think they abandon game after get money (which sadly happens often). But I consider jorb and loftar proven at this point. I will not complain if they are more consistent or open about what they do, but I do not hold the current level against them.The_Blode wrote:The problem, from my perspective, is that LOADS of other in-development games are being developed by people who are willing to set a concrete update schedule (actual updates to the game or news of what they're working on) and force themselves to keep it. Re: Game Development: Milling Time
I don't need a weekly content update, but I do want at least a weekly "in the pipe" post. Anything more than " the mystery we are working on will take at least another indefinite amount of time, until then we shall continue being mysterious"
Inb4 "but muh promises". Okay sure, if there's a weekly "in the pipe", then something the devs mentioned might not be added later on, and people with more delicate sensibilities will have their feelings hurt. I think that's fine, and those who feel cheated out of their update should learn to cope.
And I understand that the devs want to keep the content updates at least somewhat secret, even if it's just for the thrill aspect, but ANY sort of hint or sneak peak or proof of progress beyond "things are happening" would be enough for me.
