Salem PvP expedition server has ended, new server incoming

I love how darwoth was the only one left who gave enough of a shit to put that server out of its misery. I expect the next one to suck as bad, if not worse.

I've noticed from server stats that Popham seems to have been less than populous, but as I haven't followed the Salem forums or so, I'm a bit curious as to exactly why. Not least since I've at times considered if a similar structure (what with one very permanent server and one more frequently "cycled" server) would be suitable for Haven.

I've already seen this on others games....be aware that spliiting servers with the current population will result in killing the game....just my opinion.

There was a lot of people playing at the start. A lot of PvP and killing was in the first few days (thanks to Memento). But after that rest of the raiding mechanics kicked in (towns, trial by combat), and raiding required so much effort and had so high cost that many raiders just got bored. With Popham being a season server there was not much point to start there, other than competing, because it would get destroyed soon.

I guess it depends on community. Salem's raiding mechanics are somewhat similar to those of EVE's - there is high overhead cost to start a raid, requires time, effort and coordination from multiple people to carry through, and the attacker always suffers some losses in characters. But EVE has a huge and dedicated community, so the several days long campaigns culminating in massive battles with hundreds of players are possible there.

Would be really interesting if devs would tell how many players play HnH daily?
I think that we can only see amount of people currently on. But that doesn't tell how much is the whole active playerbase.
Of course now, as most people are waiting for wipe, we can not get very good results. And right after wipe there will be unusually large amount of players for few months.

What actually happens if you sail off the east coast of the world in Salem? Are there cool islands and such? Or is it just an impenetrable invisible wall somewhere out in the ocean?

You sail far enough east you hit the old world. Salem closes and haven is automatically launched.

I remember you ... from last time and from Salem, we had some nice conversations during my time there and you gave me some good advice and support during a tricky time, so I just wanted to say 'thanks', although you won't recognise the name here.

As Jorb says we all know claeyts opinions are not the norm and a lot of players do share an interest in both games, but it's appreciated that you came here to reiterate that.
I'm sorta glad claeyt feels as he does tbh, at least we don't have to put up with him here on a regular basis.
