it appears as thought i cant get any discoveries from ants.
a person in my village chat suggested that it might be because i raised my UA up to high. so right now i have 40 UA. I actually feel that he might be right due to what i remember happening last world.
if he is indeed right that you stop giving combat discoveries once you go over a certain UA threshold. can you please remove this? ants are actually quite hard to fight without getting owned early game, i have 10 agility, 40 UA, and i bet if i didn't run from an ant it would actually knock me out before i knocked it out.
also again, if he is is right, this just makes everyone fight ranged to get melee discoveries, which doesn't make sense at all. in my opinion, you shouldn't be giving melee discoveries by killing something with an arrow.

Re: combat discoveries from ants
If this is the case, it's relative to the animal you're fighting. Also, people talk about only getting a limited number of discoveries from a particular animal in a week to prevent spamming for them from easy targets.DeadlyPencil wrote:if he is indeed right that you stop giving combat discoveries once you go over a certain UA threshold. can you please remove this?
As an FYI, there's nothing you get from ants you can't get from another animal. The list of combat discoveries on the wiki isn't complete yet, but the ones I see with only one animal listed are larger animals--boar, etc. Bats and "Storm of Swords is the one exception to that, and I'm sure it's because nobody has filled in more information (I'm going to say that's the case on the other combat discoveries, too). For now, it's too easy to use cheesy tactics to kill animals, so maybe don't focus so hard on ants.
Get your AGI up. It'll help greatly. Get some Yarrow and heal antacid burns that way. Make sure your combat deck is built up with all 30 points invested if you can. I was killing ants with 8 AGI, 10 UA, and 100 HHP without using "run and gun" tactics on them. Could only take one or two at a time before having to rest, but it was a win every time. (Mega ants were a problem, of course.)

Re: combat discoveries from ants
Woosh. You missed the whole point of the post. it doesn't matter what MY stats are, I can buy 110 UA right now if I really wanted to. This is a bug forum, iam not looking for advice.
The point is if at my current stats, a noob cant get combat discoveries vs ants. how are they suppose to be able to fight larger animals without cheesing them with bows? If the answer is they cant, then it needs to be fixed.
Its nice that you killed them at 10 UA, but I already told you iam at 40 UA, and the whole point of the post is i think they have a threshold and i believe its now impossible to get them from ants at 40. This should not be the case because a nooby cant be expected to go and fight a boar without first having learned the combat system through ants. After a nooby fights his first ant and gets owned, he is not going to try fighting one again for along time. My point is, if he comes back and fights them at 40 UA, he should still be able to discover combat moves, there should be no artificial limit imposed on them.
i appreciate your trying to give me combat advice but iam not asking for it.

Those a keywords in bold. I think you are wrong and if there is an anti-bot/spam system in place - it's built on a (probably weekly) time cooldown.DeadlyPencil wrote:i think they have a threshold and i believe its now impossible to get them from ants at 40.
In another thread a guy claims that you can't get Take Aim after you hit a threshold. Yesterday I've got another copy of it at 85 UA (which is more than he claimed to be the threshold).

I'm fairly certain his point is that he had never fought ants until raising his UA, meaning he never received a single discovery from them. Ever.Hrenli wrote: Those a keywords in bold. yes but did you get it from an ant? the theory is basically that if an ant has 10 base unarmed and you have X over that, lets just say x3, you stop getting discoveries from it, or the chance of getting discoveries plumits the stronger you are compared to your opponent. which is a big problem if true.Hrenli wrote:Those a keywords in bold. Nope. Once from a fox, once from a boar. As ants were not part of the claim in another thread I did not try to disprove your claim, only his.DeadlyPencil wrote:yes but did you get it from an ant?[
So, I have to admit I can not disprove your theory (and I am not gonna fight stupid ants for that either, anyone who does it in the current meta deserves to be punished anyway, you should start directly from bats IMO). But I still sort of have hard time to believe it.

But all we have is "a neighbor said it might be because...". No even approximate number of ants killed etc. It might be he killed 10 ants without a discovery and then just followed a rumor?Kaios wrote:I'm fairly certain his point is that he had never fought ants until raising his UA, meaning he never received a single discovery from them. I'll rephrase, I'm positive he hadn't fought any before raising his UA at least not in the past weekHrenli wrote: But all we have is "a neighbor said it might be because...". I don't know who you are any more than I know anyone else. You complained about struggling with killing ants. What else am I supposed to say? If you don't need the suggestions, feel free to ignore them. I got the point, answered the point, and expanded on some details you may or may not know.MagicManICT wrote:If this is the case, it's relative to the animal you're fighting. Point being I was saying there may not be a bug here. It's a subject we've been discussing in a couple of other places, too. If you're going to bitch about missing a point, better get all the points yourself. Maybe read the other threads in Bugs, How Do I?, Announcements, and the Inn relative to the conversation rather than starting the same conversation up again a 3rd or 4th time.
If this is the case, he didn't make it clear in his post. If there is a threshold system in place, then he's fucked for getting discoveries from ants. I think you read potjeh's post on this, as I believe you were posting in the same thread.Kaios wrote:I'm fairly certain his point is that he had never fought ants until raising his UA, meaning he never received a single discovery from them. It's only a problem because people don't know the system. The "average" starting player isn't going to just dump 40 points into a skill. They don't have the LP for that or will be spending LP as they earn it building up. The players that will be doing this will be experienced ones with alts and inherited characters (maybe a couple of other cases).DeadlyPencil wrote:the theory is basically that if an ant has 10 base unarmed and you have X over that, lets just say x3, you stop getting discoveries from it, or the chance of getting discoveries plumits the stronger you are compared to your opponent. which is a big problem if true.
