It's the mountains that attract them, there are only a few big ones in this map and that SW mountain appears to be the biggest so naturally you'll see a large amount of raider activity around those parts.

You can just avoid it and be mostly fine but Dis will start roaming these parts eventually too.

Yes they are the type to kill on sight, it could have been Nao that knocked you out and took ur pants since that was his shtick awhile ago and if so I would call that a stroke of luck. Their faction kind of sucks now though so they just lick the boots of LadyGoo like the other has-been raider factions with them and pretend to be good in fights where they outnumber 2 to 1.
