Instead of looking at it as a day to day gain, look at it like the NYSE (or whatever stock brokerage you might invest in). If you look at daily rises and falls, you're going to drive yourself nuts. If you analyze it over a period of months or years, you're going to realize you have positive growth over time. Then again, some people aren't suited for investing in stocks and bonds because they can't let go of micromanaging things. I guess you can say same thing of farming in Haven.
