Okay lets ignore the n00b, we were all newbs once and I for one still am. Although town issued currency backed by a reserve of valuable items is a great idea, there is small problem, how are these reserves created? Does the town collect taxes from it's citizens? What if you can't make the item the town bases it's currency on? A town could have each villager keep his own reserve, but what if you don't like/need what he has, you could trade the note to someone else but if he doesn't want that stuff either you have a problem.

how to deal with counterfeiting? all items in game are identical, aside from quality

what's the point of a fucktarded system of paper money with some arbitrary backing when we could just use coins that are valuable because they are metal and can be converted back to bars? the only problems with coins is that you need a finery forge to convert them to nuggets, so just switch it to an alloying crucible and they would be fine. add a coinpurse and they would actually be great.

Stopping counterfits is easy, each town has a set of codes, if whatever code they're using isn't on the note it's a fake and you call the sherrif, idealy each member of the village would have his own code known only to the guy in charge of the treasury so that villagers can't forge notes from other villagers. I have also thought of a decent system to run the reserve on, when the village is built everyone helps and a set amount of metal or cheese or what have you and anyone can turn in an IOU from a villager and take as much as their owed, and the person who made the note would work off the labor owed to the treasury for the items taken from the reserve.

We need paper money because in case you've forgotten nobody but you and other super high level characters have coins, the rest of us have to hope one of you comes along and buys one of our items on whim. Paper money would allow people who weren't lucky enuf to get in on the metal monopoly. And seeing as we'll be lucky to see any help from the devs on the currency problems until the next world, I think we should do something ourselves and coded iou fit the bill.

ok just stop posting

edit: this post is not directed at jackard, it's directed at the guy that thinks paper money will somehow work because of "codes" or whatever on fucking parchment. i feel like i should clarify that for you.

uh, actually I don't think paper money would work, codes would only work if everyone knew the codes and then they wouldn't work because anyone could forge them. Paper money would be have to be so complex to work that nobody would understand or trust it, therefor it wouldn't work. In retrospect it's a miracle the american economy has lasted as long as it did. But despite all this I would take a cheese backed coded parchment based economy over a coin based economy any day because although the parchment economy would crash the day it began, the coin based economy has always been crashed. Look at the posts from the begining, nobody has coins! This coin system works only for you and others with mines, for the rest of us it doesn't, period. Your opinions are only opinions and cannot be wrong or even bad, but neither can mine and in my opinion this would work better. How about you think of a better system that works for everyone, or at least a arguement against paper money instead of just U SUCK LOL.
