Game Development: Another Touch of Fix

For all this holy optimization war - just a side question: how many java-based games do you know, that runs WAY smoother than H&H?

Problem is not java, but ineffective openGL code

Whole rendering thing is just dumb. Many (some( OpenGL things used are deprecated. This all could be fixed and replaced with new more effective methods. But it would require so large scale revamp of client code that its probably easier to code one from scratch. Which loftar is probably not going to do, because it would still be a lot lot lot of work, and I doubt that anyone else is not going to either. (Not for free, at the very least)

Pretty much did it with the transition from OGL 1.4 to 2.x. 3.x and 4.x are major upgrades to 2.x and have seen a relatively stable progression compared to the prior versions.

@sMartins: the whole "custom client" rant is getting old. It's getting out of hand. Stop, please. Seatribe has made clear its stance on the use of custom clients for anyone that cares to look.

I think I can say we're fine that you have this stance, but you're spreading the argument all over the forums. If it were other things, we'd have called it spam already and banned someone. Keep the discussion in its place and don't derail other threads with it.

whats the deal with the polish the silver thing ? how shitty are plates and glasses on this game ? my grandma has plates, cups, glasses and spoons that have at least 30 years of use and they are in perfect condition

Remember that now the Default client is very good and works very well (not like legacy) and if more people would use it the game would benefit itself, it's important for who read the forum.
Moreover I'm very disappointed from who just use costums thinking they're smarter, while i can understand people who have old pc, etc..
This is mostly why I feel is a good thing to reaffirm this concept now and then.
