Bias and denial is likely less relevant on stranger, but limited perception and misjudging is likely higher relevant. I think it is wash.Sevenless wrote:A couple of those traits (bias and denial) can be negated. Which is why I'd agree that generally people are better at judging others than themselves. Re: Define the other players from their alignment
It's as easy to misjudge yourself as it is to misjudge others. It's not our natural inclination to perceive ourselves as we truly are, nor is it our natural inclination to perceive others as they truly are.
Mistruths are rampant in life. People constantly lie to one another and to themselves.
Just who is any one of us really? Are we what people believe of us, are we what we believe about ourselves or are we some combination of the two? Are we who we want to be, even if we haven't arrived there yet? Are we what we were made into? How can any individual truly know themselves when there are so many external factors limiting their ability to be who they want to be?
I think this is why people go and spend time in a cave in the mountains away from everyone else. That is the only time and place you can really be who you are. Other people have too much influence over how our life unfolds and how we are able to live.
You can't expect anyone to judge you without bias and with full knowledge of all relevant factors. Likewise you can never expect yourself to be capable of the same thing.

Racism like all stereotyping is based in reality and like all stereotypes it has a very good purpose. It protects oneself. Is it terribly unfair sometimes sure. It's not always right in individual cases? You betcha. Is it self perpetuating at times sure. But noticing that asians are on average more hard working and more inteligent is not ignorant of reality like it's not ignorant of reality to notice muslim imigrants are more prone to crime, or the fact that blacks are more violent (even accounting for police bias). The thing is it has become taboo to say such or you become branded as a nonperson by the perpetually offended and eventually by those that do not want to offend.Sevenless wrote:A couple of those traits (bias and denial) can be negated. It depends on the reasoning and ground on the stereotyping. Statistical consensus of this information has more ground. Of course not all of -=race=- are =-adjective=- but on average there is a skew towards -=adjective=-. But if the stereotyping is based on personal experience, that is only a small sample of the -=race=- which may create a variance from the actual statistic.Avu wrote: Racism like all stereotyping is based in reality and like all stereotypes it has a very good purpose.
