Re: Legacy Haven
Honestly I hate the freeloader attitude I see cropping up around legacy. The devs deserve money for their hard work. So long as legacy is around, people whine about wanting to play the game for free and it irritates me. Especially when the current game *is* free to play, with a reasonable monetization system.

Re: Legacy Haven
I'm happy to pay for legacy, however, the problem I see is that 15 USD, is 20 dollars in my currency and I'm from Australia! for a game that is no longer supported, potentially could break and never be fixed again at any second and the player base is non-existent. The paywall in my opinion is both quite steep and to kill it off ^^Sevenless wrote:Honestly I hate the freeloader attitude I see cropping up around legacy. The devs deserve money for their hard work. The developers are entitled to do whatever they see fit with it, sure, but I feel that if they'd have monetized legacy they may have made more money.
tl;dr: Legacy 2 expensive, Devs can do wot want & Legacy bst.
On a side note, why not release it to the old fags that want to play Legacy? Make them pay for the server space/upkeep of the system?
I had a retardedly huge signature and have gotten this embarrassing replacement to show for it.

Re: Legacy Haven
The ability to still enter Legacy is a courtesty of the developers, the verified account option (primarily offering benefits for the current supported version) is to be viewed as a way to say 'thank you' for countless hours of fun spent in it for free in case you're not interested in the current supported version (codename Hafen).kaizokuroof wrote:I'm happy to pay for legacy, however, the problem I see is that 15 USD, is 20 dollars in my currency and I'm from Australia! for a game that is no longer supported, potentially could break and never be fixed again at any second and the player base is non-existent. Given the reaction in this topic this move was casting pearls to pigs, if it was me Legacy would have been shutdown around the time that topic was (and plenty of comments that have been deleted for complete indecency were) made.
Feel free to chime in on said topic to vent your entitlement.tl;dr: Legacy 2 expensive, Devs can do wot want & Legacy bst.
1) It is available to the ones who want to play it, many are just to cheap and instead whine in the futile hope of getting it for free.On a side note, why not release it to the old fags that want to play Legacy? Make them pay for the server space/upkeep of the system?
2) Further upkeep (bugfixes) won't happen. Hafen is superior when it comes to the codebase while the Legacy one is outdated to the point where supporting it is infeasible and a rewrite is needed - which was done as Hafen. Hence the clear cut terms for Legacy.
3) Stop whining.

Re: Legacy Haven
Yeah, I guess. Originally I believe the verifying account had different effects as to what they are today, but noted. I'd have happily paid 5 times the amount in it's prime though. I also bought one of the highest tiers to "Thank" them for their dedication over the years, even though I hardly touched code name "Hafen".The ability to still enter Legacy is a courtesty of the developers, the verified account option (primarily offering benefits for the current supported version) is to be viewed as a way to say 'thank you' for countless hours of fun spent in it for free in case you're not interested in the current supported version (codename Hafen).

So sorry you feel this wayFeel free to chime in on said topic to vent your entitlement.
Sorry I think you missed my point. If the game is to forever shutdown should some catastrophic failure happen, it will no longer be available for those that indeed did buy verification for legacy. So when I said release, I really mean't give charge to one of the primary players, or anyone who would be interested in maintain the legacy version of the game, both on a monetary and technical side, IE rebooting the server should it crash, or replacing hard drivers, world resets, not necessarily the codebase or asking for bug fixes. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear enough ^_^ and as for whining, I was just trying to have a civil discussion in the legacy announcement thread, but alas, it's been a while and I forgot what forum I'm visiting XD1) It is available to the ones who want to play it, many are just to cheap and instead whine in the futile hope of getting it for free.

I can only suggest you try it, once you're getting used to the different optics it's a quite nice game that in many aspects plays better than the old iteration.kaizokuroof wrote:I hardly touched code name "Hafen".
Sorry for that.Sorry I think you missed my point.
The devs IIRC made clear that they're not intending to release Legacy as they see it as obsoleted by the new version, in the same sense as every new world so far obsoleted the prior one.If the game is to forever shutdown should some catastrophic failure happen, it will no longer be available for those that indeed did buy verification for legacy. After the clarification from your side: Sorry that I got you wrong and accused you of something you didn't intend. And I hope the forum these days is a bit better in that regard... Welcome back.and as for whining, I was just trying to have a civil discussion in the legacy announcement thread, but alas, it's been a while and I forgot what forum I'm visiting XD

Re: Legacy Haven
Well in less than 10 hours W7 will be running 4 years now and since August 28 2015 in a state where maintenance is reduced to just server restarting when needed (which happened very few times). Both loftar and jorb stated that the effords for Legacy (server cost and caring for restart) aren't big deals in their books.
Everyone who paid for verification to keep on playing W7 was aware that there are no guarantees given how long it will run and there is no intend of caring for the old codebase. And there where enough that even paid verifications for 3 or 4 accounts.
Legacy had become the cooperative and project building players playground - higher developed chars shared their crops, tools and sometimes settlements with lesser developed. And nearly all socialized with each other.
Sadly even those that mocked me the loudest here at forums for "holding up Legacy flag" had their verifications and did their Legacy Weekend fun raid runs (besides troubling others mainly in actual haven) and destroyed their stuff and chased them away from HnH. Funny enough some of those guys that bragged for discount ("poor country") and showing off their sub and extra bought hats in screenshots ...
Yes there is a very low player count on Legacy - at the moment of writing just 3 ppl - but they paid to play and nobody but them or the Devs have the right for any decision about Legacy and W7 IMHO ... or does anyone think they take something away from him they don't deserve ?!?
Why shouldn't be there a low cost playground for those that always disliked the paranoid competive playstyle ?!?
And looking forward to a better client coding some flaws like small lettering in high resolutions it just can get better ... while haven !IMO! still has the inherent flaw of the old days which atm is easy to see in the pro and con discussion about a W 10 Wipe ... alternatives had been suggested often enough but it's up to the Devs to deceide their ways ... we just can follow or leave (and i think you know well Granger to which way decisions by some of your closest neighbors led
)
We should remember that a lot of anger (about P2P/P2W...) in August 2015 came from already admitted bad communications, rushing out "hafen" and not having the store fully setup back then ... but do we really want to pay extra for a "Manager" ?!?
Just imagine W7 would run for 3 or 5 or even more years ... loftar gets more longterm experience in running server hardware/software and both have a really long lasting MMO World in their portfolio ... and while HnH is a small niche it left a footprint already - so often it gets mentioned in forum discussions where i never had expected to stumble over it ... i'm eager to see how it gets mentioned in 10 years from now ...
dr,tl - play haven - don't care whether there is a Legacy World or not

Yes the development really is awesome and "the optics" is for sure a plus, many might remember my objection of 3D Style but they did it much much better than they did with Salem and thus all my refusal is blown away. Ok it's less clear and overviewable than Legacy but also much more diverse and beautiful.Granger wrote:I can only suggest you try it, once you're getting used to the different optics it's a quite nice game that in many aspects plays better than the old iteration.kaizokuroof wrote:I hardly touched code name "Hafen".
