Re: Other Games Hearthlings Play
Well it's fun that you are talking about these stuff .. cause the real reason about these behaviors are not video games but it's a cultural problem, due to the nihilism of our era ... exactly the last our discussionBurinn wrote: ..
Feelings are not inside men, but humans have to learn them. This is always happened during our history, with myths, rites, rituals, and then litterature. Adults taught feelings to kids ( and population in general) telling these stories, so people start to learn what is good, what is bad and every feelings through stories .. what is sacred, what is madness, what is power, and so on ...
For example gods for ancient Greeks were that .. Zeus the power, Afrodite love, Ares war, etc..etc... telling these stuff to the population help the culture, and help people to know what their feelings are and how to control them.
Nowadays we don't even teach anymore litterature, where one can learn feelings today, and also God is dead ..... that means that God doesn't make sense anymore in our era ....if you put out the word "God" from the middle age for example, you won't understand anything about that age ... cause everything was around God at that times ... art,music, and pretty much everything .... all the civic organization.
But if you put out the word "God" from our time, can we understand it? yes, for sure ... we won't understand our era anymore if you put out the word "money" or "market" for example ....
So we live in an age where "tecnique" (money is part of that) is the only god we have ... but, money and tecnique doesn't care at all about humans, that's why culture is declining and with that all those behaviors you was referring come back ... not cause video games

Why it is that baby does cry as born if emotion is not inside of men at birth?sMartins wrote:Feelings are not inside men, but humans have to learn them.

Being born is remarkably painful.

Humans have inside them from nature pulse, and in part emotions .... but not feelings.Ysh wrote:Why it is that baby does cry as born if emotion is not inside of men at birth?sMartins wrote:Feelings are not inside men, but humans have to learn them.
If you punch me, i punch you back ..... that's pulse, or baby crying, same thing ...
the baby cries without his mother not cause he is scared, cause babies are not scared by anything .. but he cries for anxiety, cause he lose every reference for the world without the mother .... then slowly he learn the rationalism, and won't be so anxius about the world anymore.
Of course babies cries for needs too, that's totally pulse.

Maybe it is some language issue but I think to me these ''emotions'' and these ''feelings'' are some of the same things.sMartins wrote:Humans have inside them from nature pulse, and in part emotions .... but not feelings.Ysh wrote:Why it is that baby does cry as born if emotion is not inside of men at birth?sMartins wrote:Feelings are not inside men, but humans have to learn them.
I think I will call this anxiety a feel. It is word talks about some ''anxious feeling.''sMartins wrote:If you punch me, i punch you back ..... that's pulse, or baby crying, same thing ...

I think maybe you are suggest that these thing is just instinct reactions? I do not want to put the words into your mouth but this is how I can make sense of what you say. You maybe mean that the baby man is not sentient being, and only react to stimulus with instinct, just like insect?

Good questions ...Ysh wrote: Maybe it is some language issue but I think to me these ''emotions'' and these ''feelings'' are some of the same things.

Yeah definately the language doesn't help me cause i cannot choose the right words to explain ... i can just use words from dictionary with their litteral meaning ... but i don't know exactly which meaning you give to this words in English language ... also English doesn't have impersonal forms , but this is another discussion, too long.
Btw yeah, pretty much I mean insticts with pulse, I haven't used the word "instict", cause usually is associated to animals, but insticts of animals are different from us ... we don't really have (at least anymore) the insticts that animals have, cause we have the reason ... animal survived in the world with insticts, we survived thanks to the reason, rational mind .. this is our tool.
Emotions are different from feelings. We could say that emotions are the base for feelings. (again, here i don't know exactly what you English guys think with the words emotions and feelings ... but from dictionary these are the words)
Pulse (insticts) and emotions are inside us from nature (better to say that pulse are from nature 100%, emotions are halfway from nature and culture) and instead feelings are totally from culture.
I don't know how to explain .... i need examples ...
Humanity has always known about this, cause all the mythologies, litterature,etc.. are about those things ... you learn what pain is, what beauty is, what happiness, what desperation is, what suicide is ...and so on ... good and bad thing that may happen to you, but if you don't learn these things when a pain happen to you:
1) you cannot recognize it, you canot give it a name and you just suffer of it;
2) you have not in mind which route to take to solve that pain, cause you have not in mind any model about it;
And this happen with good feeling too ... if you haven't learned what love is, there isn't any difference for you between rape or make love with a girl ... but this is even harder to explain.
Basically emotions it's the first step when you feel something, in front of a beautifull sunset, etc... but feelings happen when you recognize them, when you can name them, when you know which is the route they can bring you .... when you are able to give them a meaning.... otherwise there won't be any difference raping or making love with a girl, or insult and punch someone, and so on .... basically what is good and what is bad, these things are from culture, we don't have them from nature, nature is irrational, undifferentiated, everything is good and everything is bad or nothing is good and nothing is bad ... we gave meaning at things with rationality trying to order the world and ourself irrationality.

Even if these feeling are not native to man and are learned behavior, the man can learn even with no teacher. Otherwise how can the first men learn these feelings? Somehow the man must be able to go from emotion to feeling without some other men there to guide and teach him. But it seem you think this is no longer true today? Why can today men not learn as first men did, from nothing?sMartins wrote:Adults taught feelings to kids ( and population in general) telling these stories, so people start to learn what is good, what is bad and every feelings through stories .. what is sacred, what is madness, what is power, and so on ...
