I don't get the whole "hearthlings playing" statistics
For example it would say that there are 350 playing currently and that among those there are are like 100 from Russia, 100 from America, 50 from Poland and 10 from UK, which no way adds up to 350, but rather to 260, so the other 90 are bots then? But since I looked it up for example when there's 310 playing and I log in to play via default client since I assume those numbers are for mostly default clients no? The number doesn't change to 311, but rather remain 310. So how accurate is that information and on what basis it is calculated and are bots also considered as "hearthling playing" and how come it doesn't consider me as hearthling playing, when I am logged in and playing.

Re: I don't get the whole "hearthlings playing" statistics
I think each number is an IP, rather than a client. So if a Czech fella for example is running some bots from his own machine, it'll count as one player from Czech Republic.
The reason it doesn't update as soon as you log in is probably because it updates every few minutes as opposed to realtime?
Lastly, those remaining 90 players are probably from various different countries, which don't amount to the minimum threshold to be displayed by name on the front page.
I dunno

It only shows the top five countries, quite simply.

So in other words there are more players/bots paying than it is displayed on home page then, right?

As far as I got it from loftar it's accounts currently logged in, kind of client should not be irrelevant.donatas wrote:I assume those numbers are for mostly default clients no?
Possibly someone logged out while you logged in?The number doesn't change to 311, but rather remain 310.
Should be quite accurate (given that loftar coded it and he usually knows what he's doing) and, most likely, 'concurrent accounts currently online' .So how accurate is that information and on what basis it is calculated

Re: I don't get the whole "hearthlings playing" statistics
As Jorb said, that is because it only lists the top five countries. There remaining players may be from 20-30 different countries.donatas wrote:For example it would say that there are 350 playing currently and that among those there are are like 100 from Russia, 100 from America, 50 from Poland and 10 from UK, which no way adds up to 350, but rather to 260, so the other 90 are bots then?
As Granger said, the kind of client is not relevant, it simply counts the number of accounts logged in.donatas wrote:I assume those numbers are for mostly default clients no?
Are you talking about the "hearthlings playing" number here, or the country list? In the latter case, it's likely because the country list is only update once every few minutes, as wafflecat said.donatas wrote:But since I looked it up for example when there's 310 playing and I log in [...] the number doesn't change to 311, but rather remain 310.
The "hearthlings playing" number should update in realtime, however. Though your browser won't request a new number more often than once per 2.5 seconds, so if the number changed right before then, it won't update instantaneously when you log in (in which case someone may have also had a chance to log out in the meantime, or whatever). Usually, if the number hasn't changed in the prior 2.5 seconds, it will update more-or-less instantaneously as you log in or out.
Just to reiterate, it simply counts the number of distinct accounts logged in at the moment. No provision is made for various kinds of clients or bots or anything like that.donatas wrote:what basis it is calculated and are bots also considered as "hearthling playing"
That is not true, the country list also counts individual active sessions. If more than one of those come from the same IP address, that counts as two users from that country. However, again, the country list only updates at an interval of a few minutes, so it is not instantaneous. It should perhaps also being that not all IP blocks are accounted for in the GeoIP database that I use for those statistics, so it's probably not entirely accurate. There are probably, also, national variations on the numbers of unaccounted IP blocks.wafflecat wrote:I think each number is an IP, rather than a client. It should also be noted that not all instances of multple logins from the same IP address are caused by people mutliclienting or running bots or whatever. it is far from uncommon with people sitting behind an ISP NAT (God bless their poor souls), or several persons playing in the same NAT:ed household, and such things.
