While it is true that the average IQ test should be 100, it is up to considerable controversy what should be considered a 100.
I took an entire course over test validity, and basically, what I came out with is that almost any standardized test is nonsense. And the consensus of what is considered "intelligence" is so fractured in the education community that no matter what you do, you'll have anomalies. In my opinion, intelligence is displayed in the amount an individual can do the following: prove basic problem solving skills, solve logical puzzles, prove the ability to study and retain information and also to be able to critically analyze the necessity of these skills. The most common denominator is the ability of critical thinking.

Anyone can tell you what an elephant is, but how many can tell you why it's an elephant?

So, in short, I consider one's ability to exhibit critical thinking and the application of other common skills to be intelligence.

Whether or not the New York Yankees are a baseball team or not is not a valid question for intelligence quotients.
