it's nice though not many people manage to compile the game and then use it

a scripting environment like Paradox mod would make some users

Yes, please do something like Paradox did, but that will require minimal maintenance effort on developer. So even if you burn out and quit, it will be easy to pick up.

Maybe some thin layer for Nashorn with simple GUI for script management (browse, run, pause, stop, assign hotkey).

You dont have to use bots if you dont want to.
Big factions probably use them anyway. I think that everyone should have access to use them, if somebody has.
