I'm sure that Jorbtar have heard of this before, but I couldn't find a post after searching. Anyway, I have an idea for implementing early world metal.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bog_iron
To sum up the wikipedia article, bog iron occurs when water carries dissolved iron to swamps and springs, where it forms iron oxide. People, especially from Northern Europe, have been using it as a source of iron since before the Roman empire. Usually it's harvested by removing the top layer of material, usually peat, from the swamp to reveal the iron ore granules beneath. The bog iron naturally grows over time.
I propose the addition of bog iron to the game as a foragable ore, requiring relatively low per*exp. Naturally, it will be found in swamps and be fairly rare. It should have a very low smelting chance, to give an incentive for actual mining, around 4%, or one bar per full smelter. Also, it might be necessary to limit their quality.

Re: Bog Iron
A neat idea, and I don't dislike it. However I don't feel like it would be anything people care about, even very early in the world. But for the sake of adding more flavor to the game, i'll support it.

Bog iron could be exceptionally high ql sometimes

I'm not sure that I have a strong argument against sketch colors - Jorb, November 2019

Re: Bog Iron
I don't really mind the specifics, I would just like to see it added. I thought that it could be an early world source of metal for people who don't have enough strength to mine, or who don't want to be hit by a cave in on their first attempt at mining.

Re: Bog Iron
The only thing that actually slows down early metal world is the lack of coal on lvl1. Determined players can get ore from mining in the first couple of days.Teleskop wrote:werent early game metals deleted because they sped up the progress a lot?

Re: Bog Iron
I have wanted this for a long time, but I'm not sure how to implement it in a way that doesn't devalue metals.

Re: Bog Iron
Could halve Q of any ingot made of bog iron, and simply make it impossible to spiral it like mined iron. To compensate for that, you could give it a more end-game-related use by incorporating bog iron specifically in a good curio or gilding so that there is demand for it later on, while not devaluing mined metals.jorb wrote:I have wanted this for a long time, but I'm not sure how to implement it in a way that doesn't devalue metals.
